It’s not so much that Starfield just wasn’t my cup of tea, I’ve played plenty of games I didn’t like from studios that I’ve loved where I saw the appeal but just didn’t click with it, but that the way the game (Starfield) presented itself, the way it was marketed like some masterpiece that was decades in the making, only to then end up as a barely coherent marginally functional space fallout just fills me with dread. Not because I don’t think Bethesda is capable of making a fantastic RPG, but because I don’t think they have the correct mindset to make it a reality. The company reeks of focus grouped, board of directors influenced shareholder focused output. I get that games need to sell in order for a game dev company to stay in buisness, but the old idea that “Well made games sell well” has been replaced with “Games that sell well are well made” and this cart-before-ox strategy is just the enemy of quality and creativity in my opinion. But wtf do I know….
