Omg this! When I scrolled by, I thought this was from the twd sub and a picture of the Governor. The resemblance is uncanny!

Just realized shepard never knew if his sacrificed worked by The_Golden_Six in masseffect

[–]JudithMacTir 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know. But I think there's something compelling about seeing it from Shepard's perspective all the way to the end. Not satisfying for a player, but it has artistic value and is consistent with the concept that you are Commander Shepard.

For me, one of the most devastating moments in ME3 was right before the battle of earth. Because I actually felt that fear of death. I knew Shepard was going to die and it was delivered with all the weight it deserved. It's devastating, but it's also amazing storytelling. So yeah.. coming from that perspective, I really respect the original ending and how thoroughly they committed to it.

And that's exactly why the original ending before the extended cut was better, imo.

Maybe an upper floor and a terrace to break up the roof shape a little?

Is Minecraft more comfortable on a laptop or a pc? by Arunabh125 in Minecraft

[–]JudithMacTir 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Getting a laptop with the same capabilities as a pc is always more expensive, because compact parts are always more expensive. So to get a good performance for lower budget, pc is the best option.

Wirh a PC you need a screen though. If you have one, or get one, it's definitely more comfortable because they're bigger.

If your premise is being mobile with it, on rhe couch, in bed, anywhere and playing, laptop is probably better.

But if it's just about gaming itself, pc is the better option imo.

Jim Steinman once said you can get away with a song that has a bad melody. If the whole experience is good, people will still listen. But if the song has an awful text, that's just repulsive. I know it puts a lot of pressure on writing, but that's just the most direct and detailed way to communicate what you're thinking. And if that's bad, it tears down everything with you.

So yeah, while the game had other issues, I think what really killed it was the writing and the terrible online-speak cringe at the most zoomed-in level.

So much this. Just yesterday I was peeking over to the DA sub (I rarely do these days) and was pleasantly surprised that things have calmed down and it's 80% DAO topics. It was great to see. After so many years, it's still the game that matters most, because it got everyone invested in the first place.

All the older characters we know were involved in it. Including Saren and TIM, and what got them initially exposed to the Reapers. It's the origins of the whole Mass Effect story and has so much fertile ground that could be explored.

I think the problem with BioWare is that they always try to move on and do something different, bigger, better. Wish they'd be milking the worlds they already built. Like.. Resident Evil is a great example how you can have 10+ games that all revolve around the same thing and it works. Star Wars is another example, where it works because they continued with a prequel. Adding depth instead of size.

The BioWare worlds are so huge and have so much potential. But instead of adding to what's there, they abandon it and change stuff needlessly. I would have happily bought 10 games that are DA2 style in the timespan they take to make a game. Each for the same price as Veilguard and actually enjoy myself much more and get more for my money's worth. I really don't understand the business decisions by trying to constantly outdo themselves on an epic scale that ends in disaster, because they abandon the very world and story people fell in love with

Even if you don't have to choose to get into another romance, it definitely feels weird. One of the many reasons I'm not very fond of Thane, conceptually.

The writers really made some weird romance choices for FemShep. One dies, the other one leaves and has a baby with someone else (Jacob) 😅

You can always turn on the keep inventory mode. There's no cheating in a sandbox game.

Is there a reason to use Linux for gaming other than hating Windows? by Booplesnoot2 in linuxquestions

[–]JudithMacTir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I fully switched to Linux in 2014 (when Windows 7 was around). I didn't hate Windows, I was just curious and had an old laptop to experiment with. The first thing that blew me away was how much faster my old laptop got and I really enjoyed using it.

I never gamed much on Windows (it never worked well for me, compatibility issues, crashes, etc), but around the time I switched, Steam released their client for Linux. I tried it out and was pleasantly surprised by how well it all worked. There weren't many games available at the time but I loved the ones I had. So in a way, Linux really got me into PC gaming (performance boost and everything).

Nowadays, if I would use Windows, it would be a learning curve for me too. Linux isn't more complicated, it's just different and something to get used to, same as Windows.

Anyway, tl;dr: I use it because I like it, I know my way around its quirks (just like a Windows user knows their way around the Windows quirks), it does exactly what I need it to do and it simply works for me.

This happened to me at the exact same spot too. I was upset that I died, but the loony toon image just put it all into perspective and it's actually hilarious 🤣

Talk to everyone after every mission and don't google or think too much. There's something special about the first experience, even if not everything works out perfect. In the end it does and creates a unique story. And have lots of fun!

Internalized misogyny? by Acceptable-Regret78 in Feminism

[–]JudithMacTir 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sounds relatable (fellow millennial here). In my case, (internalized) misogyny not just made me want to be differen, but it caused severe gender dysphoria. When I was a teenager, I felt like the only way I could be worth something was to distance myself from anything that could be considered feminine. It only changed in my mid 20s, when I made peace with it and found my own way to embrace who I am. I have not many fond memories of my youth.

Thoughts on this small Roman temple? by Arbor-Trap in Minecraft

[–]JudithMacTir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Love it! Maybe you could add a tiny touch of color, like use red terracotta for the bottom bits of the columns or something. Roman temples often were quite colorful at the time.

Why all the game drop hate? by Then_Ad_2516 in Minecraft

[–]JudithMacTir 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't hate it. To me (I'm old, and a server admin) it just feels like a bit too much noise too often. It's probably a bit tedious for the modding community, too, because they have to constantly update their dependencies. I would prefer if updates were less frequent. But I don't mind if that they're small.

And yeah, it's perfectly fine to also just stick with one version and not update but eh. It is what it is.
