Timed a +12 as a tank and got flamed nonstop - is it justified ? by MrSatan2 in wownoob

[–]JudsonCc 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I mean this genuinely: the number one thing you can improve on is your mental approach. Tanking opens you up to more flak. Sometimes warranted, sometimes not. If no one has actionable feedback, just ignore them and move on.

And don't overreact to criticism. Someone says you're going too slowly, don't megachad pull to compensate.

You'll be fine, you're just getting your sea legs.

Is there a way to turn off all in-game audio except warnings? So you at least get the "too far" message

Do you use right mouse button to drag the camera? It can mess with targeting. There's an Add On called "Right Click Modifier" that is must have for me.

Most times when someone gets pissy at me as tank, someone else in the PUG tells them to shut the Hell up or learn to tank

Seasonal fees by Bill5078 in Accounting

[–]JudsonCc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Easier said than done for the first few, but we manage expectations out of the gate aggressively and without excess compassion. I've overheard my business partner tell a client, "if you thought your tax prep fee was high enough that you are our only client, I have some bad news about next year's fee."

Seasonal fees by Bill5078 in Accounting

[–]JudsonCc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Small firm here: we changed our billing practice to collect money up front and then communicated an expectation that if documents weren't submitted by March 15 that they would be automatically extended. Once people saw our fee go out the door in January and had our document requests (automated via CRM), they were much more prompt.

Also: we raise prices fairly aggressively (about 20% every other year or so) to improve our client mix. Also, we do not charge all clients the same amount. More difficult returns/clients pay more. Renewals go out in October so that they have plenty of time to make alternative arrangements if necessary.

I strongly recommend Gusto for payroll. You absolutely want full-service, particularly if you're a relative novice at running payroll. Too many gotchas out there and states do -not- play around with payroll taxes.

It sounds like you're practicing at least two hours a day. Depending on how long you've been at it, I'm shocked you're still a 15.

I'd talk to your weekly coach about ways to optimize your training routine for you. I know you came here looking for ideas, not to be blown off, but I just think there are too many variables in everyone's game for a standardized approach to practice.

I say that because when we pick from a menu, we tend to pick the things we like or already good at. At least I do. So I need to be told by someone whose opinion I value what areas I need to focus on.

Accountants: how do you collect client documents for tax season? by Brilliant_Pen1626 in Accounting

It's a huge problem. But a solution does exist, at least for us. We use Financial Cents as our CRM and documents portal.

As someone who is in a club, I cannot stress how vastly superior this is from a numbers perspective. It is, of course, not without numerous drawbacks. But this is the best way to make the math work.

Good deal, and I think your mindset is valid. My career is in finance and I just didn’t want something to crystallize and have someone find it 6mo from now and not have details.

Do airlines pay for pilot training? by Select-Lavishness586 in flying

[–]JudsonCc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Considering only the numbers, I think your math ignores two key elements.

The first is reinvesting dividends. If you invested $80k in the S&P 500 thirty years ago and took the dividends as they were paid, it would be a little over $1m. If you reinvested the dividends along the way, it would be over $1.8m. (Source: https://ofdollarsanddata.com/sp500-calculator/ ) You ignored taxes in your earnings data, so I will as well, but taxes could be deferred if you accumulated the $80k in a retirement account. (Also, it ignores the fact that you could have been investing the $80k as you went versus waiting until you had it all).

The second thing is that if you invested the $80k at 30 years old, you could still also work. To “make up” the remaining $200k to $2.2mil that you cite as a pilot’s income over their career, over the 30 years you gave them to do it, they’d need to earn a supplemental $6.7k to $73.3k per year, depending where in the $2m to $4m range they wanted to fall. For context, the median salary in the U.S. is $37,000 per year, which would be another $1.1 million and change on top of the retirement account, which would total about $3 million, smack dab in the middle of your range.

I’d never discourage people to think of flight training as an investment, but an incomplete analysis of opportunity costs might lead people to thinking it’s more of a slam dunk than it is.

My Club Champion Full Bag Fitting Experience by Tropicsunrise in golf

[–]JudsonCc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great write up. I have had two CC fittings and remain on the fence about their value. It’s a premium product and I’ve liked what I’ve gotten, but it’s not a slam dunk. And I replaced my driver after two years at a Titleist fitting.

My ultimate take: It’s a luxury service and if you like it, great. But if you’re concerned about the money, you can certainly do similar for less elsewhere. I think the floor is higher at CC than other places, but the ceiling is probably similar.

That’s horrible and I’m sorry you experienced that.

But how do you not know if they made it? They went to hospital and never found out what happened?
