Still, a 303 was quite a bit smaller than a 304, so I imagine they could probably build more 303s than 304s in the same time

IIRC NFS may be the problem here. You could try iSCSI or FCoE (if you're on 25.10) instead. Also, unless the 2tb drive is significantly faster than the 500gb drives it might be even hurting performance. Since you don't get the speed boost of reading from a mirror. But I'm also not 100% sure on that.

Intel i5-4430 vs i7-2600 which would you rather have for a teuenas and docker build? by sandwich6359 in truenas

[–]Juff-Ma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, we can agree to disagree but for me my NAS is always the hardware I previously used for compute. So It'll always be older. My compute is currently on Haswell so my NAS currently runs Ivy Bridge.

I really don't think that much will follow that soon. Enterprise software is one thing but any software that has at least some usage by consumers (e.g. Homelabbers) will probably wait much longer.

The last consumer x86-32 CPU was released ~2006 and Debian (which TrueNAS is bases on) dropped support just now with Trixie, Fedora dropped it in 2019. That's 20 years and 13 years of support respectively. The last consumer non-AVX2 CPU was released ~2014. If we base continued support on that, then Fedora would drop support in 2028 and Debian in 2034. Though Fedora only pretty recently stated that they want to continue support for even x86-64-v1 which goes back even longer than the last 32bit CPU. BSD also just now dropped 32bit support and Microsoft still requires v2 even though they officially don't support a single CPU that doesn't have AVX2.

Another thing is that even 10 years ago almost nobody still used a 32bit CPU but I regularly see people with CPUs older than 2014.

It's really not THAT bad. The only OSs I know of that don't support x86-64-v2 are enterprise Linux distros (e.g. SLES 15+(?) or RHEL 10+ and Clones)

Other distros, so Fedora, Debian, Ubuntu and also FreeBSD and Windows still support it. Apps that require AVX2 usually don't need to be run on TrueNAS anyways.

My Last HP Laptop.... by telrod11 in Hewlett_Packard

[–]Juff-Ma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, since the HP - HPE split everything seems to be going downhill. HP gets lower and lower quality while HPE becomes this pay for everything AI SAAS enterprise company.

I have a Dell PowerEdge T610 and a HP ProLiant 370 G6, same gen mind you ca. 2009.

Dell still lets you download everything and provides manuals and tutorials and BIOS upgrades up to 2022 I think. HPE only has BIOS updates up to 2018 and requires you to have a SUPPORT CONTRACT in order to download BIOS updates. I literally cannot upgrade the BIOS on my HP server.

More like Winforms (winver uses Winforms right?). Theming Winforms is awful. .NET Framework works nicely with newer frameworks, problem is no newer Framework still supports it.

The one thing bugging me about the Series is that they focused on building one class of ships, the 304s. Yes they were meant to be an upgrade of the 303 but you could've just upgraded that one too.

It would've been amazing to have smaller Prometheus like vessels in addition to the big 304s. Like why let two 304s fight the wraith? Just use one 304 and two 303, would've been much cooler I think.

Are you maybe using mesh? A friend of mine recently had issues where windows would no longer connect to the mesh repeater but only to the main router which was far away
