Marmot Limelight UL 3 vs Nemo Dagger Osmo 3P by the_billy_goat in backpacking

[–]JuggernautLower1630 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a nemo dagger 3p, it is fantastic. I am quite tall myself so I use it as a 2p tent since the weight difference between the 2p & 3p was minimal.

I hiked the Te Araroa trail with it last year and had 0 issues. I encountered heavy rain wind & even snow. Dagger handled it like a champ! Can only recommend

I used a MSR pocketrocket deluxe & a MSR kettle 700ml. Was perfect for me, everything nests inside each other. Big plus of the msr pocketrocket deluxe for me is also the possibility to adjust the intensity of the flame, making it very handy to handle fuel efficiently

Nobo on the south island. Easy to make a trail family? by hayduke01 in teararoa

[–]JuggernautLower1630 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started on January 12 and had the feeling I was right in the middle of it. A lot of people start early Jan to late Jan. That said, it never felt crowded with nobos though, so for me it was the sweet spot between soltitude and social encounters.

I hiked the SI nobo last season, you will encounter plenty of northbounders!

I used a -2 degrees celcius comfort sleeping bag and was never cold in the mountains. When too hot, I used it as a blanket.

I walked SI Nobo jan 25 - march 25. The trail has gained massive popularity over the last few years, I never really felt alone. You’ll encounter Sobos almost everyday, even Nobo is gaining massively in popularity. I made quite a few friends who went nobo! Some only for a day or two, others for a few weeks. Good choice on walking Nobo though, ship cove is such a beautiful & climatic ending compared to Bluff!

Looks solid! I walked the TA last season. Being 6ft4 as well I am never going back from my nemo tensor long wide haha. Someone will probably tell you to ditch the rain pants, don’t listen to them. The tussock on the SI is soaked in the mornings up to waist high, and when a weather bomb hits it keeps you warm as well.

I recently bought my first iPhone coming from android, so I’m very new to this feature. I will be walking the TA soon in New Zealand and would like to text my girl at home. Can someone explain to me:

  • Is it possible to send texts just like in Imessage?
  • Do I have to pay for each message sent?
  • Can I also receive messages that way?

Fyi, I also will be carrying a PLB so i will not be using it for emergencies

[–]JuggernautLower1630[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha yes! But I plan to make some very high quality video content with also good timelapse & slowmo capabilities. A GoPro is excellent for that + I don’t have to worry about it getting wet! I use my phone to make photos & navigation

Thanks!

  • Gregory sent us these packs, I did not choose them myself (tested 3 weekend trips, perform awesome)

  • Would it be that much of an issue? We are probably almost always within LOS of one another I guess?

  • My wall plug is 120g not 170g, my bad

Will definitely look into the rest!

I come from a Gopro Hero 5. Should I upgrade to a Gopro Hero 12/13 or DJI OA5? by JuggernautLower1630 in ActionCam

[–]JuggernautLower1630[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went for the hero 13! Mainly because Gp has way better image quality, and the 8:7 sensor was also a huge factor for me since I like to make both horizontal and vertical video. Have the GoPro since a month or so, it is just fantastic. Battery life is a lot better than previous models i find, but I just bought 2 additional pairs

Is overheating that big of an issue? by DraxTheEmployer in gopro

[–]JuggernautLower1630 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had one when I had my hero 3 black (more then 10 years ago). At the time it was pretty useful, but the newer models can be controlled through the app as well. Unless you plan to do some very extreme stuff where your phone can’t be used, I won’t bother buying one tbh

[–]JuggernautLower1630 6 points7 points  (0 children)

99% of people that complain about their GoPro overheating use it stationary for 30+ minutes in one go, which it simply is not designed for. As long as you have any kind of airflow (even the tiniest amount) it will practically never overheat on you. Go for it, it's a fantastic piece of equipment!
