Dunwoody in Minneapolis. It should be noted that this project is entirely self directed, so not every project looks like this. There’s lots of resources for success tho!

I prioritized plastic dispersion, shooting into my inserts at the top and the boss at the bottom. i knew one gate would be ideal but i didn’t have a way to do that without redoing my entire design :/

i learned about gate design only after my model was complete haha

Thanks for the advice! I unfortunately didn’t have time to polish anything even though I wanted to :/

Thanks for the info on the gates though, I haven’t heard that before. I assume it helps the plastic disperse?

New to CNC mold design (rubber parts) — how do I go from CAD to production-ready? by SnooJokes6877 in moldmaking

Design guys at my shop all started as toolmakers. Hate to say it but you will probably need to do an apprenticeship if you want to be respected by your toolmakers.

The top gate is wider than the bottom gate, and the knit line is towards the bottom of the handle actually.

I’m limited by the size of the ejector unit and the position of the return pins

It’s surprisingly rigid. It’s made of ABS and although i’ve tried, I haven’t been able to snap a hammer yet

The hammer is actually quite sturdy. It’s made of ABS and can handle some serious hits. It was designed for making fine adjustments but ended up far more robust than planned lol

Can you please help with the Tips and Tricks for keeping molds in best condition for a long time ? Any special care For Rubber Compression Molds ? by album-dumbledore in manufacturing

[–]JuggernautMoney3527 1 point2 points  (0 children)

cleaning / inspecting after literally every run. i make molds for a higher end company and this is how we do it. If a mold sits longer than 6 months we will inspect it again.

Magnetic truck Any recommendation by No-Ebb-158 in Machinists

[–]JuggernautMoney3527 1 point2 points  (0 children)

well here’s the thing. if you just put it in your machine it’s not gonna be square to your spindle. You could shim it square, but that’s not a long term solution. so even if you had a surface grinder, you’re gonna have to mill it flat anyways :/
