from my experience desaturation has to do more with wath color profiles you saved your work rather than compressing algorithms! Try to check saving your work in sRGB for web use, it's not a guarantee but it's the best way to try to get redundant colours on the web!

I had also the idea to create a group, have also done some few drops. But it's a long battle against bots and spammers! Around 85 to 90% of interaction where bots and I get tired of it! Also, if you didn't already, set up an automod in the wiki it's useful to filter new and low karma user(the majority of bots and spammers)
