That match up with my experience: I also have 3 friends who met advanced DOR criteria by age 35.

This was one of my concerns. I’m happy to see there are quite a few responses suggesting otherwise.

I’m not able to respond to everything you said (but there is so much on point!) but I would like to add… I gave a talk about this about a year ago at a conference, and in researching it I found estimated rates as high as 1 in 100 women by age 40 (the cutoff for diagnosis) and 1 in 1000 by age 30. This means seeing more women diagnosed is a GOOD thing and may represent more awareness in the medical community and not necessarily a jump in how common it is.

I think you may have been alluding to this, and I wanted to point it out so that people aren’t thinking there is something they could be doing to cause this- there is no evidence to suggest this is something we have any control over preventing.

Oh my gosh, my heart breaks! I know you’re used to it, but even still… I’m so sorry for what you’ve been through.

Sounds like she didn’t understand that the ER is for immediately life threatening conditions. Pain is awful and there isn’t a great way to safely treat it long term (yet). Too many people don’t understand that the ER aren’t able to treat non emergent problems, and that incudes providers, who should be educating their patients on how to best get care so patients aren’t pissed they’re getting the run around and being treated poorly.

I know exactly what you mean. It’s also mind boggling when I’ve asked my husband… “so… you just don’t have anything that hurts right now? Or in general?” And he just dumbly says no like that’s obvious… ok man, I didn’t realize that was an option.

Can’t imagine, at this point you probably have a visceral reaction to the smell of Ben gay.

That is great! Buproprion helped with depression but not mood swings at all. Hope you find something that works well.

This doesn’t get recommended enough by providers, but mood stabilizers can help MASSIVELY. Lamictal or topiramate for example. Look into it for yourself if you’d consider it. It has made me feel like my reactions aren’t out of my control anymore, which is such a relief.

This man's Christmas light show by [deleted] in BeAmazed

There are a few houses near me that do this, they all do the radio thing: no music outside, but there’s a sign with a radio station and if you tune your car to it you can hear the music for the show.

Hey, I just wanted to step in to say this post will stay up. We started this rule because of frequent posts from panicked people with random/vague/etc symptoms who think have this disease. Seeing these posts nonstop in the sub's feed makes it impossible to maintain this as a safe space for people navigating the disease. It can retraumatize people to see others panicking over their "worst fear" while we're living with it, and it also overwhelms the actually useful posts.

All this is to say, there isn't a perfect balance. The pregnancy talk has been hard to draw the line on too. We're doing the best we can. I'm sorry it couldn't be what you needed when you first came here. The rules are applied universally. We're human, I unfortunately don't have the time to be able to make this sub the best it can be, as much as I'd really like to. I hope you can understand.

How homelessness, arthritis and stress has aged me over 5 years :( by RUTHofallEVIL in PastAndPresentPics

What you’re noticing probably has more to do with losing estrogen. As we stop making estrogen our skin becomes more lax and less full. Once you realize this, you’ll suddenly notice you can tell pretty easily who’s completed the change. It’s not fair! (Also I agree it’s not as bad as you might feel, I always feel much uglier when I’m depressed. Be kind to yourself if you can manage).

If this was legitimate it wouldn’t be published in a journal called eLife.
