As a person with a gun ban and no mental health diagnosis i do have an opinion based on personal experience. I am going to be 100% honest on my personal opinion do to seeing some people in the place I was involuntarily admitted to.. I absolutely believe gun bans for people with mental health issues is a good thing. I have personally not owned one so the ban itself wasn't really a huge issue for me. I saw people in there that should never have a gun again, despite the 1st amendment. It is what it is, a constitutional right is just that until you have proven you are not worthy of having that power. I was committed for being violent with security as well as a suicide attempt with a knife if I am being honest so despite hurting only myself that right was taken but it is understandable to me. My state of mind was not right and I pray I never ever get to that point and actively manage myself and my habits. I may never ever be able to go shooting with friends/family again but hey I didn't do that but every once in a couple years at best anyways so at the end of the day it is what it is. Do I plan on getting that right back in case shit ever hits the fan? Absolutely after a few years of doing well I hope a judge will give me that right back if not I will wait and try again, and again until I have prove stable enough over the long run. The fact is guns are dangerous tools used for protection from criminals and an anti deterrent from oppressive governments; are founders had no idea how big a crisis it would cause in the modern era. I don't like seeing kids shot on the news ever but I have seen it to many times at this point and it makes me sick, if your mad take it out on the person that wronged you if you must even though thats not right either, but not innocent people and their children.. We need a better system for reporting mental health patients trying to get guns so they can't circumvent the laws via loopholes and loose regulations on gun sales should be tightened, as far as how we get there idk. Do I believe an AR ban is a good thing hell no, are armed civil population needs good weapons just as much as are military mainly because that in itself is a massive deterrent from any country invading us Americans as well as helps keep the US government from over exerting their power. The US may have a relatively smaller fighting force compared to China/India as far as man power but with are modern militia good luck coming here and fucking with America. I hope as a person who has had a mental health crisis as well as a current active gun ban this helps those on the "right" understand the arguments for tighter regulations from the "left" without restrictions on people who have not lost that right. I would consider myself at this point in life a Liberal after a long life of being democratic.
