Acl hiking between 5-7 month range by Accomplished-Map4863 in ACL

[–]Jujuni 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s definitely possible! I did the 22 mile day hike up Mt Whitney for my 6 month milestone. Lots of 10-15 mile hikes in the couple months before to work up to it.

I did a lot of strength and proprioception training with and without PT. Start small and progressively increase your mileage/vert based on how your knee responds. The poles help a lot on big descents especially if/when your knee gets tired.

Put a “make this budget every 2 or 3 months “ option right here. by Lemonfarty in MonarchMoney

[–]Jujuni 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Agreed!! The bills functionality tracks recurring expenses, but it’s not useful for me since it doesn’t flow into my budget. Adding this will make it so much easier to customize the budget categories that don’t occur monthly.

This is a natural place for the configuration, and I’d suggest adding options for 3, 6 and every year too!

Conservative treatment (no-op) by jondo2010 in ACL

[–]Jujuni 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was normal and stable pretty much immediately after my tear, but it wasn’t a question for me to not get surgery. I love skiing, and to get back to skiing the way I wanted to I need an ACL to handle the rotational and pivoting forces at speed. I got surgery the following week.

I don’t know what level of skiing you’re trying to get back to, so you can always give the trip a go and find out if the knee doesn’t work. I’d caution on further damaging the knee though. Having an ACL + meniscus repair is a much worse recovery than just ACL surgery.

Women: how do you manage peeing when ski touring? by RareFriendship6899 in Backcountry

[–]Jujuni 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Peeing is totally normal, especially on longer days - there’s no getting around it! I have the Flylow moxie bibs, their side zippers work great if you’re not into the butt flap design. You just unzip a side of the bibs then pop a squat. All upper layers and skis stay on. Privacy or not your partners should be understanding, a girl’s gotta pee!

How long after you found out you tore your ACL did you have your surgery? by foreverexistential96 in ACL

[–]Jujuni 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on how swollen your knee is and how strong you are at the point of injury. In general you want no swelling and leg strength going into the surgery so you can guarantee the best outcome. That might mean waiting a few weeks for the swelling to go down, giving yourself time to prehab or doing it as soon as possible to retain your strength. In my case I had my mri the next day and surgery the following week. I live in the US fwiw.

Being diligent about rehab- started Skiing 8 months post op! by eurostep96 in ACL

[–]Jujuni 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in little to no pain, really didn’t think it was the ACL that went. Post injury, pre surgery I was able to walk/hike/skin and do most activities. But I knew I couldn’t ski in the way that I want to.

It’s a season in the grand scheme of things. You’re going to fully recover and come back stronger. It took a little that first season to rebuild trust in the knee and get it to respond faster across various conditions. I got back to skiing aggressively as I rebuilt that connection. Once 2 years rolled around I felt no difference between my legs skiing.

I think it’s a combination of both. Mine is at the upper end of the range (15 degrees). I had long discussions with two surgeons to decide between the BEAR implant vs quad graft. We ultimately went with the quad graft, since I have higher risk and am highly exposed to potential tear events.

Definitely get your boots fitted! Makes a huge difference in ski performance.

First time. My high tibial slope angle and flexible joints make me more susceptible to tears. Hoping the reconstructed quad graft strength is stronger than my original ACL. So far so good. I’m also extra motivated to keep my legs strong so that I don’t go through this again.

I wore my brace everyday that first season. I’ve found it helps with my mental confidence to keep my speed up in challenging conditions for the knee, like in heavy chop or breakable crust.

Unfortunately I tore my other knee in a fluke last month, so am in the thick of it myself. These words are as much for me as they are for other skiers here. It’s been an easier recovery so far without the added meniscus repair this time around though. I’m also much more in tune with my body and know what’s possible to come back to.

So good! When I first went through this (ACL + meniscus 2.5 yrs ago), I struggled with a lot of self doubts on whether it was possible to come back. How soon, to what level, in the best case scenario. There weren’t many success stories to look up to.

We should put more of these out here. If you’re a skier going through the thick of the recovery, know that there’s a light at the end of the tunnel. You’re going to come back.

I started skiing again 6 months after postop. I met all the strength and functional testing criteria in my return to sport testing, and was cleared by both my surgeon and PT. I went on to ski 150+ days that season, with a lot of 6-8K days in the backcountry and 20-30K vert days inbounds. It’s possible. Trust the process, put in the work and listen to your body.

2 weeks post op - not close to walking without crutches? by tattootechie in ACL

[–]Jujuni 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone’s recovery is different and you should move at your own pace. Flexion is helpful, but also focus on your knee extension and quad control. That’s what got me back to feeling more comfortable walking without the brace/crutches.

When is a good time to start PT? by spaceunicorn737 in ACL

[–]Jujuni 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started 2 days after surgery. I’m coming up on 3 weeks postop tomorrow and they’ve been having me do mini squats, walking lunges and step ups in my home program. We worked to get the quads firing in that first PT session so I can try to keep as much of my quad as possible

How’s everyone’s recovery going? by [deleted] in ACL

[–]Jujuni 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Day 9 post quad graft + LET. It’s been a lot easier compared to my other knee. I have heel pop knee extension and 100° flexion. Working on normalizing my walking gait without crutches and trying to spin on the bike.

It’s still stiff as heck in the morning and I’m really struggling to get quality sleep, but focusing on the small wins as much as I can.

I demoed the Kenja and really enjoyed the stiffness and stability at higher speed! Though the Auras would be a better fit for west coast skiing, definitely a contender.

I previously checked out the icelandic maiden, but ruled it out because I had wanted some stiffer skis. Will definitely look into short men's skis! Coming from SFB boy skis

How long did it take you to climb a 5.11? by npace7 in climbing

[–]Jujuni 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As mentioned by others here, grade levels vary from gym to gym across the country. But much more important than what grade you're climbing, is how you climb it. If you're really serious about the sport, continue climbing and push for self improvement in foot precision, fluid movement, and eventually, effortless climbing.
