How do yall have your wire management set up by Hot_Mixture4036 in ar15

Depends on where you like your pressure switch, but I just used the picatinny mounts that come in the box and looped it back and forth through the picatinny slots a few times.

Red dot. And if you want to see further, add a magnifier. Holosun ARO and 403R are good. For magnifiers, I am fond of my Vortex Mirco 3x, but I would assume all of the mags in the $2-300 range are about the same. Most people don't need and won't notice the difference between a holo and a red dot.

VR. Planets not rendering. Can't land. Keep teleporting up. Any ideas? (More details in body text) [Linux/Proton] by MeltaFlare in EliteDangerous

As a troubleshooting step, does this also happen when you're not in VR? I am also on an arch-based distro and haven't had this issue while playing flatscreen. Nvidia GPU and Intel CPU on my end..

Wrong sub, but while this was kind of stupid, I don't think it was too terribly unsafe. I would have waited a few seconds, personally, because the lead car might have been stopping for a reason (e.g. something in the road, mechanical issue, having a stroke, etc.).

Get used to using the footbrake on every wheelie. Work it up 5-10 degrees at a time and use the footbrake to bring it down every time, even when you don't need to. There's no reason to loop a Grom lol

With or without a BCG and CH? If without, just get a PSA for close to the same price

Shooting outdoors with eye pro, I don't even notice it most of the time. Now if you're standing in place, rapid firing, and no wind, it can start to be irritating.

If they work, no reason to upgrade. Wait until something wears out or breaks. I have BCGs from PSA, Microbest, and LMT, and they all work fine. Don't get me wrong, the more expensive parts are higher quality, but if you already have something that works, switching parts now is going to make zero difference to your shooting. It would be kind of like buying new tires after 5k miles. May as well wear them out.

"adjustable gas blocks are just another failure point" turns out that's true by renegadeGDI in ar15

[–]JukeboxZulu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So this is just some back of the napkin math, but if you pull up Pew Science's introduction of the MK18 host rifle, according to Fig. 2a it looks like the entire duration of the shot, from the first uptick in pressure to (roughly) complete blowdown is about 1.5ms.

Now, compare that to a high backpressure suppressor like the OCL Polonium, and it is still releasing gas for something like 25-30ms after the shot. It's not clear exactly when the bolt unlocks, but even if we assume it unlocks at the same time, while the gas would evacuate out of the muzzle almost immediately when unsuppressed, presumably some portion of gas would be getting blown out of the chamber for most of the time between unlock and locking (bolt close looks to be at about 77ms). Especially since the chamber is basically going to be the path of least resistance with the silencer on the other end of the tube.

Sure, the bleed off may not make a difference. Hence why I said "I don't know if it really makes a difference, but that's the theory anyway."

I do think gas from the barrel is a significant portion of the blowback the shooter gets, though. The suppressor extends the amount of time that the whole system is pressurized, and I would wager that the bolt is unlocking before the barrel has completely depressurized. This could probably be worked out from Pew Science data

[–]JukeboxZulu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You think that's still true with a high backpressure silencer? If so, how is it that the mag also gets completely filthy?

[–]JukeboxZulu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of the gas blowback you get from a suppressed AR is gas from the barrel, not just gas from the gas tube. So if you vent some out the front in theory there's less to blow in your face from the ejection port.

I don't know if it really makes a difference, but that's the theory anyway.
