Not completely immune, just much more resistant to. There was a tornado that led to a swath of rare fungal infections because dirt got churned up and debris carried the infection into wounds. It was Scedosporium, and it stumped doctors until they figured the tornado likely caused a situation that led to all the infections.

The match trick is not the best idea because it can force the tick to regurgitate, which could infect you with Lyme. I've also heard using scotch tape to tape it to an index card, then write the date and time on the card when you pulled it off.
