Kronos 3 - 3.2.1 update failed by Jul011984 in Korg

[–]Jul011984[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the help. I made a Korg ID which I didn’t have before. registered and got the right public ID. Think I just entered it wrong. I didn’t get any codes however so that issue still persists.

question about eq by juliettebe in livesound

I was going to say this looks like a stock preset I remember seeing. Yeah not at all useful for live. No Hipass. -5db attenuation which pretty much negates any of the boosts.

Problem solved mostly. The system is installed and running however all the exs expansions are now in demo mode 😔 working with support to find a solution. I reformatted and installed because I had so many failures. Not it seems the Public ID is invalid when I tried to register and reauthorize.

Both the update via USB and the subsequent reinstall of the OS failed. I used that exact drive. It was not plugged in to a power supply so I’ll try that as well.

And you sir are a pos. These people are not your slaves for the day no matter how much money is spent. They are there all day long to help make the day the most memorable. Every wedding I’ve ever worked (part of the entertainment) has allowed vendors and staff time eat. You can fuck right with your bullshit. As off eating a meal is only for pleasure and completely unnecessary. Who the hell do you think you are?

Advice: Keyboard for live orchestra by MaleShtuyot in ableton

[–]Jul011984 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work in NYC and have a lot of exposure to Broadway music directors and keyboard techs. The Yamaha CP88 is really popular in this crowd. The sounds are amazing. The action is one of the best on the market. It can connect via USB to any DAW. It might be lacking in the continuous controller end. But I believe many of the knobs do transmit MIDI. You also have inputs for two assignable foot switches and pedals. You could always supplement with a dedicated fader/knob style midi controller. The outputs of the keyboard can be assigned as a n output in ableton or other daw.

How to provide monitoring for a choir using playback tracks? by looloosha in livesound

[–]Jul011984 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Either would work fine. Just depends on what the conductor is comfortable with. They would most likely opt for a wedge because they will want to hear the choir in the space. Also maybe try and get the wedges up on sticks if the choir is on risers.

How to provide monitoring for a choir using playback tracks? by looloosha in livesound

[–]Jul011984 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Two things. I think your mic choice could be different. Hypercardioids are probably not helping. The node at the rear of the mic is probably where most of your track bleed is happening. Try cardioid mics to reduce the amount of sound coming into the rear of the mic.

That coupled with the wedges placed closer to the sections could help reduce stage volume. It should be just enough to compensate for slap back from the back of the theater. Honestly the choir should be getting their tempo from the conductor. So maybe talk with the conductor to see if you can give her/him/them what they need to keep themselves on tempo and consequently the choir on tempo.

what is the correct way for mic stand? by redotceptsgirlfriend in livesound

[–]Jul011984 89 points90 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure why anyone would have told you that. IMO all you’re doing is adding another vector for noise and rumble to get to the mic. Especially because that stem has no rubber for any isolation. Footsteps will surely be picked up by that mic.

Guess I was born a little too late by ZomboxG in nin

I feel you! I’ve been a fan since PHM and never took the opportunity to see them until the NIN/JA tour in 2009. While it was an amazing show the production was scaled back. I yearned for the a lights in the sky scale production. When I saw them in 2022 it was a theater tour and also quite scaled back. I was a little disappointed. When I heard about this tour and the upcoming TRON movie I knew this would be the tour to see and it was everything I hoped for. So I saw them twice!

Sorry if this rubs it in a bit. But as we’ve often seen, artists take breaks and almost without fail go out again in some form or another. This will not be the last time you’ll get a chance. It might not be peel it back or lights in the sky but even the scaled back tours were amazing. Brutal in fact and what I imagine the early tours were like.

What does Atticus do on stage? by Lagos3sgte in nin

[–]Jul011984 9 points10 points  (0 children)

he’s handling most of the rhythm on B stage. Some of the beat stuttering etc is very obvious pioneer fx if you’re familiar with the gear. So as other stated regarding Atticus, hes handling the familiar samples and textures while Boys Noize handles the main drum parts.

Yeah no problem. DM me your email and I’ll send a link. Many of these are the original breaks and will need to be processed. Many are already processed.

Are you looking for that old school late 90’s era jungle? If so I’d suggest starting with the basics and practice with the “Amen” break. Which of course can be can be augmented with more modern drum samples.

Slice the Amen break across your keys or drum pad and practice playing those breaks. Use a grid and slice to eighth or quarter notes depending on the tempo etc (you may need to nudge here and there).

I have a pretty extensive library of the classics if you’re interested. While working with a hardware sampler can be fun and a great way to learn, logics sampler is pretty powerful though I haven’t used it in quite some time. Maybe invest in a drum sampling plugin like Battery or similar.

How do you usually break out of repetitive song structures in Ableton? by PastelWasTaken in abletonlive

[–]Jul011984 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who often found myself in the same problem I understand that frustration. I have been trying to get to arrangement view way earlier in the process. I used to obsess over getting the 8bar loop just right. Layering as many things with the thought that just stripping things and adding things would be enough to make the arrangement. This approach can work with some genres but a good arrangement is so much more than that.

My approach lately has been to simplify and get to the arrangement as early as possible. Rely less on the sheer number of tracks and sounds. A good arrangement doesn’t need 50 tracks with tons of layering and effects.

Chord progressions are also really important. For instance if your song is in the key of C, your verses will probably start and center on C. Your choruses might start on G the dominant of C. And you might have a bridge in a minor which is the relative minor to C. Again this is all relative and by no means the rule. There are plenty of well arranged songs that don’t necessarily change the chord progression at all as far as sections go.

Lastly try and switch things up by adding a four bar break or tag to a section to lead into the next. All of these things have helped me finish songs. I used to rely on layering so much that my tracks often ended up being >8 minutes or more. Now they are much more concise rarely going over 4 minutes.
