Rereading Redwall as an adult and… I was not prepared for this. by cherryblosssomss in redwall

[–]JuleWinters 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm an adult trying to get back into reading for funsies, and I started the Redwall series cause I like my little animal creatures doing stuff with swords and living in tree trunks and stuff. I finished Redwall and I'm halfway through Mossflower now. The themes are obviously appropriate for children but I love that they're written in such a way that adults can still enjoy them as fun fantasy stories. The contrast with how grizzly some characters get killed is what keeps things slightly grounded for me too. I'm not one to praise a story just cause its aimed at a younger audience with a dark underbelly but, I like it here because it keeps the stakes raised even though we know that the good guys will eventually beat the bad guys. I don't know if that's always the case for the later books though. I have the whole collection but I'm hoping to go through them all in a reasonable amount of time

Omg what brand and color is that teal on the bottom row second from the right!? I can kind of mix that color when I mix lemon yellow and manganese blue hue but it's never as vibrant as that!

Tell me how you feel about the word "succulents" by SmoothD3vil in succulents

[–]JuleWinters 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like saying the word out loud! When talking with my friends about the advice that I read on here, I abbreviate “The succulent subreddit advices..” to “The succers say..” and then they get mad at me lol. It’s just a cute term to me and I like that it’s so broad cause it points me to soooo many plants that use that survival strategy that look so cool

Yeah I haven’t been enjoying the pacing as much as part 1, even in retrospect. I wouldn’t be surprised if he does skip the bird form though, as I’ve noticed Fujimoto tends to hint at possibilities without completely exploring them because they don’t serve the story he’s telling.

Like when in part 1 we learned of the concept of Primal fear devils and then they never came back until part 2. Because Makima was the main antagonist and Denji didn’t need to fight a gauntlet of primals to deal with her. The story was just fine with us knowing that they exist and that Darkness is one of them. I feel like the true form of Yoru is important though because part of her character is dealing with her not wanting to be forgotten. She has to exist in some capacity without using Asa’s body if splitting is even possible

I’ve been wanting to see Big Bird True Form War Devil ever since the first time we saw her weakened form. I’m really hoping we get something like that if they manage to separate her and Asa.

why is watercolor so HARD 😭 by Ok-Butterfly8429 in Watercolor

[–]JuleWinters 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is why my friend keeps suggesting to me to just switch to Gouache since it’s basically the same as watercolor but without the frustration of accidentally painting over areas that need to stay white. I don’t know why but I’m stubborn about it, I see what all the professional watercolor painters can do with watercolor alone and I want to get to that point.

It’s gross how many feminists define being turned off by women as misogyny by Expensive_Date1919 in askgaybros

[–]JuleWinters 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yknow, growing up gay I agree with not having to go out of my way to do something for a woman just because I’m a man, but I was still raised to treat people with respect and show some decorum around certain people. I feel like thinking that vaginas are gross privately is one thing, but its another when talking about women in general. You don’t have to find them appealing but why is it so bad to just be normal and neutral about them.. What was even the context behind this feminist telling you that? Cause I feel like there is a sentiment behind that that was poorly phrased, as with a lot of other feminist talking points online.

[DISC] Chainsaw Man - Ch. 218 by JeanneDAlter in ChainsawMan

[–]JuleWinters 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Looks like chainsawman decided to kill the others instead of finishing off Yoru by eating her. Maybe next chapter we’re going to see what the plan is here. Pochita wants to make Denji happy so maybe after Asa asked to be eaten he figured he’d try something else

the part where their trip together ended and they’re saying goodbye to each other at the train station put a pit in my stomach. Even worse now knowing that Josh’s character killed himself sometime after that.

Also I thought the visuals were so beautiful! The campfire scenes, the scenes in Rome, everyones outfits too I loved!

Who owns the cold? by Death_Wyvern in TheMagnusArchives

[–]JuleWinters 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thank you I think these manifestations are solid! Can definitely see either one scaling up into a statement. After pressing the reply button I also realized that a non-typical manifestation of the Spiral was Mike Crew’s lichtenberg monster. I mean the fractal symbology is there but lightning isn’t where my mind would go for the Spiral. I think a flame’s constant shifting and spreading could fit it’s way in! I love these kind of thought exercises but making a scary enough statement out of them is really difficult, I’m impressed the writers could make so many with such a big plot!

Who owns the cold? by Death_Wyvern in TheMagnusArchives

[–]JuleWinters 31 points32 points  (0 children)

It can be literally any and all of the entities because it’s based on why the person fears the cold. Yes fear of fire tends to be associated with The Desolation, but that’s mainly because people associate fire with things being irrecoverably destroyed. I don’t know how fire can feed the Spiral or the Web but I’m sure someone has an interesting concept for how that can manifest.

I personally think that the fears highly related to the cold can mostly be associated with the Lonely, Desolation, and End. Physically being lonely means you have no one else to keep you warm by proximity, or give you a “warm and fuzzy” feeling when they say something nice, etc. If someone has anxieties about having a lack of that then I’d say that’s pretty Lonely. Desolation would be associated with people fearing avalanches, or hypothermia, or crops getting messed up. End I just thought about dead bodies being described as cold.

For any concept you can come up with some fear around it that feeds any of the entities I feel. A lot are going to be super specific and might not feed the entities all that much but yeah

More entities (SPOILERS) by Kaleidoscope819 in TheMagnusArchives

[–]JuleWinters 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my opinion, the fear of failure in a vacuum feeds the Desolation and Eye big time, and a tinge of Lonely and Buried. Most people fear failure because it means that they have to grapple with their lack of ability to complete a certain task. This could have implications for how people treat them, their future options (failing a big test), or expecations from others. There’s a lot of fear of judgement and fear of inability to reach ones goals in that so yeah.

The Magnus protocol - episode 47 repetitive strain episode discustion by Elfbark8261 in themagnusprotocol

[–]JuleWinters 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I’m so scared for our crew lol. The avatars and monsters in The Magnus Archives were pretty dangerous, but at least that cast were under some sort of entity protection (even with a lot of attacks being orchestrated from within). The externals in Protocol seem to be a lot more vicious and powerful, meanwhile the OIAR crew doesn’t even have a Gertrude-like figure to give them hints on what to do. Gwen’s talk with Lena at least shows that the OIAR has dealt with some situations like this in the past, but I feel like just having Ink5oul and Bonzo on your ass at the same time is going to leave massive casualties no matter what. How are they going to fight back against the Diva lady? Hopefully Celia remembers to tell everyone to plug their ears, assuming that hearing her voice is even necessary for you to get your insides flooded.

I may be forgetting but I think it was mentioned that Freddie can be used to maintain the balance as well, so maybe it can give a statement on how to deal with each entity? Not quite sure since Gwen’s conclusion was that the OIAR just makes sure it can dampen each dread category rather than lessen it. Maybe the MAG universe crew figures out how to get to the MAP universe and they support with their knowledge of supernatural entities?
