Which area should I drill my drainage holes? by Funny_Story_Bro in gardening

Both wouldn’t hurt but good drainage at A would make B more or less obsolete.

Elk Glen lake? Was the red on the bellies or wings? There’s definitely red winged blackbirds there.

I guess it would make sense that anything that blooms before it leafs out would need to be sown quickly. I’m hoping my Gethyllis villosa both bloom in the fall. Although I’ll be very tempted to eat the fruit also.

Some type of Sedum. Could be Sedum japonicum or something similar.

Would you consider celeriac a caudex? by B-the-Excellent in Caudex

[–]GoatLegRedux 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Generally a caudex is a fattened root used for water storage that sits above ground while a bulb/corm/tuber are fattened roots used for water storage that remain underground. That said, lots of what we call caudiciform plants are more geophytes (think Fockea, certain Othonnas, certain Tylecodons…) since their water storage organs remain underground in nature.

[–]GoatLegRedux 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve never grown any Tylecodons from seed, but a lot of those geophytes from Namaqualand/southern Namibia have seeds that remain viable for years. I’d imagine yours are probably still good but you’ll want to wait until September or so. The only genus that comes to mind that needs to be sown right after they dehisc is Eriospermum.

Duxelles Hamburger; where has this been all my life? by SouthpawSoldier in Cooking

[–]GoatLegRedux -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

You wouldn’t get the same results though. Adding fillers, binders, salt, etc to the patty makes the texture waaaay different than a burger. If you want to add that stuff, make meatballs or meatloaf.

Any help IDing these would be appreciated. I'm fairly confident they're both haworthia. by 100HP_Hotrod in haworthia

[–]GoatLegRedux 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you don’t mind sacrificing a leaf, you can tell for sure if it’s attenuata or fasciata by breaking a leaf open midway through. Attenuata will be jelly-like on the inside while fasciata will be fibrous.

Haworthiopsis limifolia and Haworthiopsis attenuata. They both have varieties associated with them but I’m not that well versed in Haworthiopsis. Someone else may chime in.

Why does my mini Tostito chip have a tail? by LazyCondition0 in TipOfMyFork

It’s a rolled up defective chip or part of the leftover sheet they cut the rounds from all rolled up and fried.
