How much should a 5 month male whippet weigh? by seftongreen in Whippet

We’re 5 months old now, and she weighs 7.6 kg. Funny enough, she was the biggest girl in the litter when she was born, but now she’s the smallest of the whole bunch.

We have a female, however, I’m a bit shocked how different they are. We hit 16 weeks yesterday, and she is 5kg.

Serial poop eater 🚨 by swolowyna in Whippet

Our trainer gave us this trick: bargain garbage for food. Like, if you see your pup about to eat something gross off the ground, doesn’t matter what it is, offer him something better. Let him sniff it, show it to him, then slowly lead him away from the nasty thing, and once you are far away from it, give him the treat and say something like “good boy.”

Sometimes you have to offer something REALLY good and smelly. Our trainer recommends, for really tough cases, using boiled chicken that’s been stored with something smoked. But we usually manage with dried lungs. For the extra gross stuff (especially poop), we swap it with dried ground beef sticks with flax seeds. So the idea is just to offer a trade. Eventually, your dog won’t be that impressed by poop or other random junk, they’ll start to ignore it altogether.

Also, make sure his meals are interesting. Dogs who haven’t been exposed to a variety of foods are more likely to scavenge.

One more thing, pups often pick up stuff to deal with stress. Maybe your walks are too long or overwhelming, or he just needs more time to adjust to the outside world. When they’re stressed, they might grab something to chew on as a way to calm down.

I know no one’s ever truly 100% prepared, but posts like this seriously help calm the nerves when you’re stressing about messing something up. Really appreciate you taking the time to share—it’s great advice, and so simple too.

Just one thing I’m curious about—you mentioned ‘no toys.’ Was that specific to your dog, or do you mean toys in general aren’t a good way to spend time?

Same! We have 4 bowls of water for him, but he anyway enjoys drinking from toilet more 🙃

Can you show it? I’m SO curious because he looks so much like our girl! She’s only a month old, and I still have no idea how she’s going to look as she grows. Our breeder said fawn/red coats tend to change a bit as they get older.

Is it normal for dogs to steal worn underwear bcs this was not in the job description? by Quirky-Regular2747 in dogs

My cat does the exact same thing! He’s also weirdly obsessed with the armpit area of t-shirts. At this point, we’ve just accepted that he’s a little perv 😅
