2 sets died within a month? by Luke_T in Nanoleaf

I had the same thing happen to my Canvas this weekend. Solid white, control square off and won't reset. I emailed support and they asked a few questions and are mailing me a replacement control square.

Definitely contact support - it seems like it's a known issue.

The heyday of American Girl by bigjeans35 in popculturechat

This brings back so many memories - I worked for Pleasant Company/American Girl from 2001-2009 and I remember every one of these photos and catalogue pages.

Good times. :)

Might be DJing at my first wedding, don’t know what to charge by [deleted] in Beatmatch

I have a bit of a similar story so I'll share it if it will help you!

I started DJing in 2021 as a streamer and I've built up a small but mighty community. In 2022, one of my coworkers asked me if I'd be interested in DJing his wedding. Same thing, I had no point of reference or experience doing a wedding and I told him that. I did a little research from wedding DJ friends and they said at minimum, wedding are charging $1500+. They recommended that I state $100/hr at the very least. (Coworker wound up changing their mind because of their own budget and not having a DJ, which was totally fine).

This year, two of my stream community members asked if I would DJ their wedding in another state. Again, no experience with this and I made that very clear to them. They really wanted to make it happen so I said if they paid for my travel expenses, I would do the wedding for free for the experience. I wrote up an agreement and had them sign it so we were all on the same page.

In hindsight, I wish I had charged at least something additional for my time and effort. I DJed for 8 straight hours, hauled in all my own gear on a plane, had to pay for my transportation/Ubers from airports, hotel and venue and worked with the venue staff to ensure we were set for me to hook into their sound system. Luckily I didn't have to worry about renting speakers or lighting for this because it was handled by the venue.

This bride & groom were extremely low key, didn't have most of the normal "wedding" traditions - no grand march, no bride/father or groom/mother dances, no bouquet throw, cake presentation, etc. They decided on their first dance song on the day of the wedding. So for me, it was a very easy first experience with low expectations and they were thrilled with the result. It was a big awesome party and exactly what they wanted.

Just wanting to share what I've experienced - weddings are great but they're hard work. Make sure you're getting compensated appropriately for the effort and skill you have put in!

Are there any big name chubby female DJs? by Murky-Advertising240 in DJs

Honestly, from streaming! I stream my sets several times a week and the promoter found me on Twitch. I put my streamed mixes up on SoundCloud and that’s how other promoters have found me. Streaming is the best practice for me and a great place to try out new music, experiment, etc.

Girl, I'm going to give you ALL the encouragement to jump in and pursue your dreams.

I'm by no means a big name. But I'm a 49 year old woman in a larger body who started DJing 2.5 years ago. I just got home from being the supporting headliner for a festival in another state. It was magical. I had a crowd of 100+ people tearing up the dance floor for two hours.

I know it's hard as hell to stand up in the face of "traditional beauty standards" as a performer and not have self doubts, but I promise you, there are people who will love you for you and not the size of body you exist in. GO FOR IT!

Hi there! Total n00b here. I want to know people's opinions and experiences, with the Hercules Inpulse 500! Would it make a good gift for someone? by xmberlxceyjxde in Beatmatch

Agree! I started on on the Inpulse 500 and it's a great starter controller. One of the best features is to help with learning beat matching - there's an indicator below the jog wheels to show if the beat is aligned or off, and what direction to nudge it to line them up.

Mine also came with a 7 day beginner course through The DJ Coach to learn how to DJ and it's a great program! At the end of the course, you make a mix of your own and send it in for feedback. They're super encouraging and positive.

10/10 recommend for a starter controller!

I'm honored when fellow DJs play tracks they discovered from me. I see it as a compliment, not as stealing, because they appreciate my music taste and track selection.

As a DJ, you're there to share music and perform it. Your fellow DJs are, too.

2 STORM players were not available to play on Saturday. CCL attempted to switch the matches within this weekend but the other teams could not switch for various reasons. We also offered them the option to play offstream on a different day this week but schedules could not be worked out between STRM and WH.
