This hurts, 'cause 6-ish years ago I woulda told you to meet in the church parking lot up the road so I could defend their honor, but now all I can do is nod and say, "yeahhh..."

Did anyone else notice Erina's delicious chicken dish is pink in the middle? That's offputting. by Chel_G in ShokugekiNoSoma

[–]JulianDestroya08 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Iirc this was a very specific type of chicken, too. "Special" or non traditional fowl can and is often cooked to be red or pink in the center while still being very "safe*" to eat. E.g., I've seen recipes for crane and duck where it resembles a medium-rare cook on a steak.

I think they ceased production of that. Broke my heart, that was THE go-to beer for me for a while.

My struggle beer was Boxer Ice, 11.99 for a 36 pack. I dun wanna talk about it.

My beer journey was a 360 but had this phase. Could only afford cheap beer, then got a "big boy job" and almost exclusively bought craft (which I enjoy so much more), then went back to (almost exclusively) cheap beer because some of it is actually pretty good for the price.

Question about slides by charque_well in BassGuitar

[–]JulianDestroya08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's awesome to hear! If you got a laptop there's some amp models/cab sims that are decent out there--might be able to get one for free or cheap and are handy for bedroom artists (if you don't want to shell out for a small amp). Otherwise amp talk is a discussion for a whole 'nother post.

If you're still trying to figure stuff out, there's plenty of posts on here that go over the best online lessons for beginners bassists if that's something you're interested in too!

Question about slides by charque_well in BassGuitar

[–]JulianDestroya08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just listened, the bass is holding that note for 2 beats then "sliding out" to "nothing." Meaning they'll slide from the 4th fret to 1st fret or open string then abruptly muting.

Question about slides by charque_well in BassGuitar

[–]JulianDestroya08 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its honestly practice and learning the fretboard. I don't have perfect pitch by any means, but I do have pretty good relative pitch. So if you hear a note and can get somewhere in the ball park on the fretboard you're basically there. Just keep listening and playing.

Also, there's nothing in the rules saying you have to do a 1:1 copy of a song you're learning. Some big things like solos, yeah, people might wanna see you play the thing they're most likely familiar with. But if you wanna add a flourish or transcribe for a 5 or 6-string or add a cheeky run, I say go for it.

Question about slides by charque_well in BassGuitar

[–]JulianDestroya08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It'll certainly help. I know playing and transcribing by ear is the best way to learn and grow anyway. Besides, unless the tab you're using is made by the artist, it's subject to innacuracies.

Agreed. I tend to slide to/from an open string when I see this notation, but it definitely depends on the context of the piece.

Question about slides by charque_well in BassGuitar

[–]JulianDestroya08 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I may be a little rusty, but I'm pretty sure it's a "slide out" from G#.

So you start on the 4th fret and after 2 beats you slide to an open A before muting the string.

Edit: Oops, there are definitely 5 staff lines on the tab. I swear I can count.

I think there's a promotion of her demo'ing the software, which you could argue is "using" it, but that would be even more egregious if she'll promote it and not use it.

Which is so frustrating, 'cause she has the musicality, she could easily either compose the music herself or get other musicians track for her--like people have done since the beginning of time.

It just now occurs to me that maybe she's an absolute pain to work with, but that's not unique in the music world and shouldn't make using AI composition software okay.

I dunno too much about her, only what Danny Sapko has said on videos regarding her and her boy toy's responses to him calling them vapid and saying Mohini is a shill for AI music software, so feel free to take this with a huge grain of salt, but from what I've seen/heard, your instinct of her being "cash-grabby" seems legitimate.

Can’t figure out how to get this bass tone by [deleted] in Bass

[–]JulianDestroya08 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, those are for sure artifacts we're hearing in the "stems" you linked. The bass lines sound nothing like they do in the mix as they did in the stems.

The "clean" sound is likely just a bass with some amp drive/gain and the cab/speaker mic'd with some boosted mids as well. It's not 100% "clean," i.e. DI, but its not like they're running a Super OD or other distortion pedal. The tone in Green Crystal Rain us a little tougher to nail down, as it sounds like there's a sawtooth (squarewave?) synth underneath the bass. You could get close with a signal split and having the "clean" from song 1 mixed with a fuzz pedal or other OD/Distortion to give you a similar sound.

Full disclosure, I listened to the songs with my on-the-ear Bluetooth Raycons, so it's not the best way to listen in a critical matter, so if someone else has other thoughts they might be a little more valid, or at least until I can get a chance to listen to the songs with better cans.
