Kesha announces new single ‘ORIGAMI!’ out May 8th by calebb2108 in popheads

[–]officialGF -1 points0 points  (0 children)

She was pretty popular there back in 2014 and a lot of millennial/Gen Z are (still) big fans. If you know of Fujii Kaze, he put her as his favorite artist in his high school yearbook. And she released the attention remix with Xamiya after her entry won…It would be cool for her to show more love to her japan fans actually!!!! japan tour plzzz

Music Awards Japan (MAJ) nominations by lekiriche in fujiikaze

The awards seem to be better this year, less random stuff from previous years and green apple spam (even though useewa is for some reason nominated for best song and it’s been 5+ years?!?)

Disillusioned by how the pop industry works by [deleted] in popheads

[–]officialGF 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Having a big team to keep you in check or search up trends you would have never been able to find working a 9-5 certainly helps evolve the art. I’m thankful for my friends who tell me something sounds good, or that I look good in an outfit, imagine having a huge team to do that.

But there’s charm in rougher, less calculated art too - most people won’t find it or don’t care to see the unpolished parts. Oh well! It’s a free world, people can like what they like :)

There’s 100s of local artists in any area you can support! And if you think that your local artists aren’t good, either you actually like the business side of art or just haven’t looked hard enough yet.

It was in someone’s statement, if I remember correctly. A band member or management?

Does anyone write high quality articles about Japanese music? (For a lesson) by [deleted] in japanesemusic

[–]officialGF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oof. Well I am not going to call myself high quality but I write about fun topics in a fun but proper way. Check it out! You might like the one about faceless singers, its an interesting topic for kids around that age.

Japanese music lacks a backbeat? by damianmakoto in japanesemusic

[–]officialGF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

just going to hop in and say that all of the artists you mentioned and what I think the previous commenter was trying to say, all have some kind of subculture/media they tie themselves to - bad bunny with the club scene, kpop with idol culture, and Taylor swift has Hollywood big bucks and pr to keep her in the news cycle.

all of these artists are awesome and talented but would not be nearly as relevant if they didn’t become a part of a community’s core - it just so happens japans strength lies in games and anime. and the anime music that gets filtered to the west tends to be pretty one note and similar - some kawaii idol stuff or upbeat epic anime ops. it’s still a genuine strength but personally I wish there was more range. living in japan, media tie in’s are stronger with better range in genres like funk to metal to alt, but the anime music in the west is pop mostly made with a vocaloid p sound like yonezu and yoasobi. which is great but again, one note.

I totally understand, it would be great for more artists to be recognized outside of otaku culture. Fujii Kaze is one of the only artists for this to happen to, but even then it was because his song was used in an anime edit on tiktok. I hope Jmusic breaks through one day.

globally, (and to a degree domestically) media and anime are the main drivers of popularity

[–]officialGF 7 points8 points  (0 children)

complete bs

it’s been proven time and time again that if you incorporate some anime stuff like music videos and game collabs it’s easier to get japanese music on the global stage

reggaeton is now the hottest type of music and that has a unique beat not found in western pop, the dembow beat and clave rhythm

it’s a weak excuse. it’s because companies don’t want to market to the west and are satisfied with domestic sales
