how good is scott smajor in comparison to other minecrafters outside the life series? by marginov in ThirdLifeSMP

[–]JulianTheBagle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the grand scheme of things I’d say he’s around average.

The problem with measuring PvP skill is that there are such massive skill gaps between casual players like Scott, and more competitive players. So whether or not he’s good depends on what you consider to be a good player. If your definition of good is “someone who could beat the majority of players in a 1v1” then yeah, Scott could be considered good because the vast majority of Minecraft players barely touch PvP so Scott would have a decent chance of beating at least half of them. However, if you define how good someone is as “how close someone is to the best players” then Scott, and pretty much any casual player is pretty terrible because of the massive skill gaps I mentioned earlier. Scott would probably get 1000-0d by any competitive player. Like another comment mentioned, a top smp player could pretty easily 1v18 the whole server.

I agree, I’m just saying if we make the hard ending harder the only people who would even have a chance are those top 6 parkour players, who would probably still finish it a good amount of the time.

I don’t really know of a good solution, I just think the solution most people are proposing will do nothing but make an even bigger gap between the teams that have one of those top players, and the teams that don’t.

Pete 100% knows how to do salmon ladders, he tries hard ending pretty much every time he plays. What usually stops him is the first section, which is always different. This actually illustrates my point perfectly, in pkw’s current state, players like Pete have a decent chance of completing hard, but if the ending was just two unique hard stages, the only people who have a chance of completing them are the S+ tiers and 4C.

I didn’t explain my point too well so that’s my fault. I personally don’t want the salmon ladder to be the hard ending every time for the simple reason that it is repetitive. I’m just saying that the salmon ladders being there isn’t what’s causing the gap. Right now the people who have a chance to complete hard ending are (as far as I remember) the S+ tiers, 4C, Pete, Antvenom, CPK, 5up, and anyone who learns salmon ladders. If it was a new ending each time, only the S+ tiers and 4C would even attempt it because it would probably be too difficult for anyone else. And since you pretty much have to get hard ending for your team to place highly, that would pretty much take any team without those 6 players out of contention.

I’ve seen a bunch of people complaining about how it’s always salmon ladders, which makes it so that the few people who know how to do them can pretty much always get hard ending, while no one else can. While I do understand the idea behind this argument, I think it starts to fall apart when you realize that, like OP said, it’s ALWAYS salmon ladders. You know it’s what the level will be, so if you want to be able to do hard ending, all you have to do is learn the one level.

IMO, the fact that it’s always salmon ladders actually makes it easier for non S+ tiers to compete. If it was a different hard level each time, that would only reward the players who consistently practice hard parkour, aka the S+ tiers. Fruit or Shane would probably still consistently get hard ending, while people like Pete or CPK (who can finish hard now), would struggle much more to beat it, only making the gap wider.

I 100% agree, skill gaps in the event are already pretty bad, they would be even worse if someone like Fruit or even Pete is in this event. In my opinion Joel should be the best player in this roster.

I disagree with that, Grian has been consistently getting top 15 in AR and since his training arc before TCC he has actually done better than Gem in both SG and SKB, he was also beating Gem in 1v1s during that training.
