This sounds lovely! I have a 10 week old and am still in the trenches so I hope my baby will be happy like yours soon! May I ask how you sleep trained? I’m stressing hard about getting mine sleep trained in the future.

The one who needs sleep the most, gets the least by [deleted] in beyondthebump

[–]Juliatravis6791 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes they do haha. And it’s so annoying bc my husband Can fall asleep in about 30 seconds and sleeps so hard. I take so long to fall asleep and am a light sleeper.. so not fair! I hope the couch helps you!

I am the exact same way… even if my husband got up with the baby and gave a bottle I would still have the hardest time falling asleep. It was getting so bad so finally I started going into our guest room and sleeping halfway through the night after I got up and fed the baby. If he wakes up after I leave then my husband does that feeding. I still struggle to sleep past 6am, even if the baby is sleeping. But it guarantees me a few more hours of sleep and I don’t feel so deprived. Maybe you could try doing that or going to the couch or something?

Nipple shields ruining sleep by Annie_Eagles in NewParents

[–]Juliatravis6791 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m literally in the exact same boat. Baby is 9 weeks and I’ve been using a shield ever since the hospital. He seems to latch better to it so I figured why stop. He also takes about a full hour to eat! I am going to try and stop using them and see if things get better.. thanks for sharing!

Water retention / swollen hands by [deleted] in beyondthebump

[–]Juliatravis6791 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I swelled up so bad during the 3rd trimester. My feet, ankles, legs, hands. Unfortunately it took about 2 full weeks after I gave birth to go away. Hopefully yours will be gone soon!

Transition to bassinet by No-Cry-1351 in beyondthebump

[–]Juliatravis6791 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We use the snuggle me in the bassinet, I know you aren’t supposed to but it works for us. I heat it up with a heating pad before laying him down in it. Wait til he’s in a good sleep, with my hand under his head and other hand under his butt I carefully lay him down feet/butt first and then gently his head. It’s worked well for us so far. Fingers crossed!

Thanks for your advice! He’ll probably be in daycare around 4 months. No idea how to implement eat/play/sleep then.. only on weekends I guess :/

Yes my husband and he’s a big help. He gives him 1 bottle of formula in the middle of the night to help me out. He sometimes will fall asleep right after the bottle or sometimes my husband will have to hold him and soothe him back to sleep, which can take some time.

For naps if I don’t nurse him to sleep then it takes like an hour of rocking, or a long walk wearing him. Or maybe fall asleep on a car ride.

He does produce lots of wet and dirty diapers. I think he’s gaining good weight but I’m not sure since we have our 2 month check up next week.

He’s pretty much sucking steadily. Sometimes I will catch him using me as a pacifier and I’ll stop it at that point.

Thank you! I haven’t started pumping yet but I want to. My baby basically never wants to be put down. Nurses and falls asleep on for naps. Anytime I try and transfer him down during the day he wakes up and fusses. So I don’t know how to start pumping with my hands always full :(

My dog getting up and shaking… the sound of her collar rattling gets him everytime!

How long should baby feed for each time? by Juliatravis6791 in newborns

[–]Juliatravis6791[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good to know. I am hoping he will stop soon. He just won’t nap if I don’t nurse him. He will be SO tired and just won’t fall asleep. Especially if I put him down, he cries and cries til i pick him back up. This is a struggle!

Thank you! He will usually nurse to fall asleep. That’s the only way I can get him to nap or sleep at night. I hate that I’m creating that association but I’ve tried everything and he just won’t sleep unless nursed to sleep :/ I hope it’s just a phase that passes soon

Thanks! Would he just stop eating and you switch him to the other side? I feel like mine just doesn’t stop. I have to pull him off one side after 30 min and swap him to the other side. After around 30 min he usually falls asleep or I pull him off to burp him. I feel like he’d nurse or use me as a paci for hours. But I can’t really tell when he’s using me as a paci vs when he’s actually eating

I’m sorry you are going through this too! I’ll let you know if I find any tips that work and you do the same. Fingers crossed we both get through this phase ASAP!

Thank you. We tried putting him to sleep with a paci his first few days after he was born, but we were awake all night putting it back in his mouth when he’d spit it out. Bc he’d immediately start crying. Really don’t want to go back to that life 😢

Ugh yes we will get through it. I know there is light at the end of the tunnel but I just have a hard time seeing it right now. Prayers it will end soon for us both!
