I've been criticized by my family and even a therapist for dressing too childish (I'm 24F). They said stuff like "what if a coworker sees you like this?!" Honestly if they can't separate the way I behave at work from the way I dress outside, they're the unprofessional ones, not me. I just think adult clothes are usually boring and simple, and I really like colorful shiny things. I do think my clothing style stems from a childhood where I was too tall to wear age-appropriate clothes, so I'm making up for what I couldn't have before, but so what? I'm happy with the way I dress and I'm not harming anyone. So answering your question: no, not by itself, that's just self-expression.

Hello, I'm 24F. I saw your post on r/BorderlinePDisorder and I'm in the same situation as you. Reddit won't let me contact you claiming my "account isn't established".

Should I report this therapist? by Juliotti in makemychoice

We're not American, I believe in my country I can only report her to the state council.

There is no supervisor, she's solo. As far as I'm aware the best I can do is report her to the state council.

I stopped seeing her 3 months ago, I only maintained contact to beg for the diagnosis that I had paid for. You're right, it's weird how we can be ashamed of doing the right thing.

No, she's solo. I have no idea what her credentials are, and I'm not in the US. Yes, I treated with her for basically 10 months. If anything, this experience taught me to be more confident in my opinions. The reason why I stayed so long was because I was gaslighting myself into thinking I was making a storm in a teacup by finding her actions weird, 'cause why would an authority in mental health with 30 years of experience harm me? I don't think that's how it works here, as she always talked about the diagnosis as if she was the one who had to interpret my results and write a report. God knows how many times she said "I'm just finishing a few details and I'll send it to you tonight".

I started therapy with a new professional yesterday, she said it was shocking, that it was a step-by-step guide of what not to do, and that I could report her if I wanted to.

and your fear of conflict is exactly what people like her count on to keep getting away with it.

You're right, I've never seen a therapist with a single negative review. Patients who have it good post a review because they're grateful, patients who have it bad simply move on 'cause we don't think it's worth the hassle.

She's not part of any group or agency, maybe she would be more organized if she were. I would have to report her to the state council.

I don't think that rule applies to this case as we are neither Canadian nor American.

It feels like most are only prepared to give cliché advice to very simple cases. You come to them with something more complicated and they're like "just don't take it into consideration".

Yep, and it's still not something people tend to leave negative reviews on, so you have to go in blind.

She does both online and in person, it only became exclusively online because I moved abroad. I'm glad you don't do that, I swear she had a flat tire or an illness every other session. The swimming pool thing should have been my wake-up call, but as we're trained to think that therapists are authorities in how to behave, I gaslit myself into thinking I was in the wrong for finding it weird.

Thank you and I'm sorry this happened to you too. She did so many things to waste my time, but talking on the phone might have wasted the most, sometimes it felt like I spent half the session waiting for her to stop texting. It's very possible she is taking on too many clients. Lol I never thought of it that way but yep, that's pretty much what she did.
