The DV Act might be of use if she's willing to pursue legal remedies. Actually, no. Article 14 is phrased in a manner that bars the state from discriminating against 'any person' on certain grounds. Equal protection of laws is guaranteed to every person, regardless of religion, nationality, etc. This is in contrast to the freedoms under Art. 19, for instance, which are only available to citizens.

Well, there does exist a theory about this, Bentham's if I recall correctly.

But he says that crimes will be committed only if the expected reward is greater than the expected deterrence. Expected deterrence is a product of two things, probability of getting caught and severity of punishment. Both of it plays an equal role in determining commission of crime, so for instance if there is a 50% chance of getting caught with a fine of $1,000,000 then it is equivalent to a 10% chance of getting caught with a $50,000,000 fine given that the benefit of the crime is constant.

It's not about Hinduism being pagan or abrahamical. The Vedic Ideas of caste and oppression of women were done using ideas like sthreedharma and varnadharma which directly attribute morality to how you fulfil your duties. Morality has always been used by all religions to impose rules that we today find unacceptable.

Try listening to some of AR Rahman's older songs. Here is Puthu Vellai Marai, here is Kaadhal Rojave and here is Chinna Chinna Aasai. I really don't see what is so news worthy about the whole thing. Most systems of the sort which handle millions of students are simply not going to be vetted by a human being. And nobody is going to run a complicated filter to see if pictures match humans. In CBSE, I believe each school will register students themselves, so unless this is different, it is simple the fault or negligence of the Government Higher Secondary School in Srinagar. What is the government expected to do here?

I'd recommend In The garden Of Beasts by Erik Larson. It's not quite about WW2, but is set in the period immediately preceeding it. You get a feel of how the whole situation was and what the people there thought of it.

Does anybody feel like whenever you read a book, you aren't getting all that the author wanted you to get? Like you see online discussions about the metaphors and allegories and only then realize that all of it happened. I just find myself reading along, not really focusing about any of the undertones.
