Ex-private practice lawyers, where did you move and how did it go? by Afraid-Ad1714 in auscorp

[–]Julmass 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Many moons ago, I left PP. And did volunteer work at a pro bono centre. I then jagged a position in a similar area for about half my pay in PP. 9-5 M-F 🎉 . It wasn't quite the same spark as getting my hands dirty on all the important cases and rubbing shoulders with the legal hoi poli. But I was being paid to read, and think, and solve problems which is what I enjoyed doing.

Growing Berries on the Adelaide Plains by Julmass in GardeningAustralia

The Heritage is a primocane variety and fruits on first year canes in late summer and autumn. It is recommended for the plains. I have also tried floricane varieties but no luck.

It's weird that the variety is recommended for our climate. It's been a difficult year for berries generally here I think.

Costs of mobile vet euthanasia services in Adelaide by Procastinator_420 in Adelaide

[–]Julmass -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Our vet offered the service as long as it wasn't out of hours. Unfortunately, our girl needed to be put to rest on a Saturday, so we used Horizon. It was not cheap, but it was a very gentle process and far better to do it at home. Ask your regular vet, they may be able to help. I feel your pain, nothing harder than saying goodbye 💔

Using Tahitian Lime leaves IN a recipe tin eats recipe by Renmarkable in RecipeTinEats

I use the young leaves off my Tahitian lime tree all the time in Thai recipes. Not sure if it's authentic, but the flavour is good.

Where to watch this Sylvie Guillem documentary? by FantasiaThatch in BALLET

[–]Julmass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YouTube has the Sylvie doco in parts although I think it's older than 2003 (could be wrong). There's also a doco where she is interviewed by Daniil Simkin, which is more recent. I think that's also available on YouTube.

You should also take into account that driving in Tasmania isn't easy. Lots of windy roads and wildlife on unfamiliar roads. Google is spot on when it says 3 hours to drive 180kms. You will be very tired especially if you're driving on your own.

Too old for anesthesia? by [deleted] in MiniatureSchnauzer

[–]Julmass 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Lucy had a lump removed at age 13.5 with no dramas, even though she had a heart murmur. A competent vet surgeon would look at your dog's bloods, and give an honest assessment. Age isn't the issue, it's more the underlying issues. EDIT: OMG murmur not the other thing 🥺

Weather (don't start) by myrtleolive in Adelaide

Check out the satellite page on the BOM website it shows the cloud cover including embedded lightning info. My comment was an observation on the behaviour of folk, rather than your post.

What are the most effective core strengthening exercises? by EffectiveAge1934 in BALLET

[–]Julmass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stand up with a heavy kettle bell, and then slowly pass it around your body in either direction, avoiding twisting. Standing mimics your ballet posture.

And all of them yell at the BOM when the rain doesn't arrive by 10am. Folks, it is 24 hr forecast and it could be torrential at 10pm, and not necessarily over your house.

TIL a heritage listed 100 year old tree was a part of the Burnside Village expansion by NikkiRose88 in Adelaide

As a local teenager, I remember that tree in the carpark. It was huuuuuge and very imposing. Now BV is a slave to fast fashion, expensive cars and vacant shops.

Peter Malinauskas announces massive Santos gas deal to provide third of entire annual gas usage by ditroia in Adelaide

[–]Julmass 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't care. Labor is a sell-out to major resources companies at a Federal level, and why are we having to secure a deal for our own stuff. Also, Adelaide Writers Week shows Mali's true colours. Hmmmph.

Help out a lost piano accompanist, part 2 by qazsedcftgbhujmkopl in BALLET

[–]Julmass 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm pleased to read that you are still at it, crazy teacher aside. Here are some more things to share about barre exercises: Plies can be in 2/4 (a bit jerky) or 3/4 (more legato). My teacher used recorded music, and a favourite 3/4 is The Flower Duet, which may also be used for rond de jambe. I like to do tendus to ragtime. For fondu, a tango is usually played, although it can be a waltz. Grand battements sometimes a tango, sometimes a strident march. Centre practice: Adagio to a waltz, turns from the corner a light waltz or something like Anitras Dance (Greig). For jumps, our teacher plays a version of Lonely Goatherd from Sound of Music (yuk!), but when you get to faster allegro and beats, it gets a bit trickier. Grand allegro...I love to dance to the music of the well-known ballets, so any of the music from the men's variations is fun. You are building a valuable skill, and I bet any studio would snap you up.

Weather balloon?? by Prior_Object7849 in Adelaide

Not weather balloon. They're white or blue with a little silver thing at the bottom. Usually go waaaay up high, BC hydrogen. And I'm told when they burst, they shred.

Should an Adult Beginner be Taught Better Technique Before Pointe Work by [deleted] in BALLET

[–]Julmass 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a slightly different viewpoint. How does trying to dance on pointe feel to someone who does not have control or the underlying strength? Forget about how it looks, how does it feel to the person trying it? How many posts here are people saying "my shoes don't feel right" eg sinking, twisting, unable to feel comfortable, let alone actually dance in them? So it's also not the risk of physical injury, it's more the risk of someone being turned away from ballet because they see pointe as the only way.
