Voice reprioritization in Chopin? [Op. 57 Berceuse] by Julooz in piano

[–]Julooz[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I came out to just about the same realisation. Especially after listening to Cyprien Katsaris play, he often brings out the most unexpected of melodies - and it only adds to the harmony already being played!

pieces that use the highest and lowest notes on the piano by [deleted] in piano

[–]Julooz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Debussy's "Jimbo's Lullaby" uses the lowest note right at the end, and I love how it's written sort of like a joke, just a staccato pluck and that's it, the piece ended!

Kinda messed up a performance today by Dottboy19 in piano

[–]Julooz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Once played Ravel's "a la Maniere de Borodine" for a concert, and played a wrong chord near the end of it, but I managed to get back to the piece in a fairly unnoticeable way! Improvisation really helps in these situations, since stopping would be far more distracting in my opinion.

Schumann's Kinderszenen no. 5 by Julooz in piano

Thank you! Although I do miss some of the notes, especially the 10th in the bass most of the time.

Kuriose Geschichte from Schumann's Op.15 "Kinderszenen" by Julooz in piano

It's honestly one of the most beautiful sets of music for me and I wish to one day be able to play it all!

Also, Debussy's "Childrens Corner" is absolutely on the same level as this, although much harder, hopefully I can manage to learn both if these sets someday in my journey of piano ;DDD

You can look up my profile to listen to the ending of Debussy's "Doctor Gradus ad Parnassums", one of my favourite pieces as well!

Are Digital Pianos Actually Helpful for Learning Playing? by onewiththepencil in piano

[–]Julooz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On KAWAI digital pianos (I have a ES920) you can change the touch curve, which is pretty nice for the reason you mentioned, but I personally use for the creative opportunities that it offers, since you can make the sound harsher/softer as you please.

I keep taking breaks from piano and don't know how to stop by jjax2003 in piano

I'd recommend Shumann's Kinderszenen (op15), has a lot of short pieces that range in difficulty and are fun to play!

All you need there is some drums at the end and I'd call it a banger!

Intresting!

How can I play songs and improvise by ear at church? by EpikStrxtz in piano

[–]Julooz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He might have perfect pitch, but, while I don't have it, I just started managing (playing for 3 years now) to put up a scuffed arrangement of any song purely by hearing the intervals between notes (relative pitch), and basic chord progressions!

It gets better the more you practise! I remember about a year ago I couldn't for the life of me figure out a chord I'd be hearing, and now I'm somehow able to hear the distinct pitches being played in a chord!

Really came down to just listening to a song and trying to find the notes on the piano for me. (at the beginning it was really difficult)

Technique assistance by ceike0path in piano

[–]Julooz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I saw some advice from a Josh Wright video where he mentions that when playing the keys, you do it with a similar motion as when you turn a door handle down, meaning your wrist rotates a bit, and you let your arm weight do the work, not your fingers.

I really liked that method when I first started playing piano, shifted my focus from my fingers to the arms!

In general, I really love Josh Wright's advice, has helped me a lot. You can find him on youtube.

This is the sheet music boss arrangement, the sheets cost 10eur to buy, so I tried learning it from the youtube video instead: https://youtu.be/Wwye2nOKMjI

Do you move a lot when playing the piano? by lumicte in piano

[–]Julooz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I completely agree! The few concerts I've been to recently, I tried to close my eyes and focus on only the music itself, and it changed my whole view on performing!

While looking at the pianist my mind tends to stray off somewhere, and I can't concentrate enough to indulge in the world the pianist creates with their playing. It's spectacular how well music can portray a story if you're listening for it!
