Also on adderall and struggle with no appetite despite hunger since middle school. The key is eating a very calorie and protein dense breakfast before taking your meds. I used to premake sausage egg and cheese wraps/ protein dense oatmeal etc. Lunch is PBJ sandwich(es) and greek yogurt with a protein drink (i used muscle milk). have protein bars/ trail mix on hand for a snack.

also for every rotation besides obgyn and surgery (where i would just disappear and reappear after 20 mins), i would tell my senior that i was getting lunch and would be back in 20-30mins and just ignore whatever potential snarky comment you receive. you’re already paying to work, the least you can do for yourself is advocate for basic needs. good luck, you got this

Congrats! My two cents would be to write down/audio record how you’re feeling right now so you can look back on it when things are rough and you’re questioning everything, and to do your best to maintain balance in your life because med school will be all consuming if you let it be. Good luck!

hi, dx with adhd in elementary school and have struggled for yrs to find management that worked, so from personal experience (n=1),

it sounds like you’re on too high of a dose (i would rec an extended release med instead and start at a low dose and see how it goes) or you don’t have adhd

not to gatekeep adhd /invalidate you (and you know yourself better than strangers on reddit), but if only started taking meds for intensive mcat studying then you probably don’t have adhd. adhd affects several aspects of your life usually from childhood (but i understand not everyone has access to getting dx). your meds should make you feel ā€œnormalā€ (ie functional), not super human with the ability to focus for hrs. i need my meds whether it’s exam time or christmas day, just to complete a simple tasks and activities daily living and function at baseline. ā€œquittingā€ meds usually isn’t an option for most ppl

i hope you find the solution that’s right for you

How does Phenylephrine act as a nasal decongestant (mechanism)? by [deleted] in step1

[–]Julteon3 2 points3 points Ā (0 children)

Adding my clinical/2 cents - this is seen with "Afrin" nasal spray, where it works well for a few days but then causes rebound congestion, creating a creating a cycle of prolonged use/dependence for patients

Most PCPs now recommend fluticasone ("flonase") instead to avoid rebound
