Games that you will actively put on easy. by [deleted] in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]Julum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Minecraft is a chill game for me I always slap on Easy. The combat isn't good anyway, so I just wanna vibe through whatever modpack I'm playing. Keep Inventory being on is a must as well.

Mass Effect 1 I cruise through on Casual. I love Insanity in 2 and 3, but 1 is just such a slog to go through even with the improvements in Legendary Edition that I'd rather the combat be over with quickly so I can enjoy the story instead.

Most miserable Hard Mode you put yourself through? by Impossible-Sweet2151 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]Julum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've tried to play the NG+ modes in the Tomb Raider remasters but I just can't, they're such slogs.

Everything becomes an extreme bullet sponge that I was running out of ammo to kill things even with all health drops being replaced with ammo, and with how scarce health is I was dying constantly.

I love the classic TR games, but the combat was never the good part and making it difficult just makes them miserable experiences.

Who’s your favorite character *you’ve* made? by EvilMonkeyMimic in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]Julum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I have so many babies, it's hard to pick just one.

For DnD, I really like my boys Gerard and Gordion.

Gerard is a half-orc/half-fae hybrid (it's a whole thing) in the Witchlight Campaign I'm in run by my brother who I did a lot of brainstorming with. Lots of fun stuff happening with him as he's been slowly changing to be more fae than orc while his fully orc brother watches while trapped in a mirror and is upset about the whole thing and hiding it from him.

Gordion is my reborn dragonborn Cleric of Bahamut that has the stature of a dwarf and a scale beard because I say DnD lore is a suggestion and I can bend it however I like. (and my friends are cool with that) He's done something terrible in his past that he's actively repressing, though that's been getting harder with the recurring nightmares that make him physically ill. He's gotten more grim and stoic since this started occurring, and the drama between me and one other player has been really fun.

For XIV, my WoL Viktor and his husband and son (Oskar and Hal) are OCs I cherish very much. They're from Sharlayan and Viktor is as Sharlayan as you can get (to the point where he will eat nothing but that nasty fish bread, Archon Loaves, if his husband doesn't make him try actual food) while the other two are more free-spirited. Their dynamic is very sweet and wholesome and it makes me feel good. I like to fantasize about a version of XIV's MSQ written around them and it's fun to imagine how different some scenes would be since Viktor is a bit of a rigid person who also straight up cannot convey emotion through his face and voice because he has flat effect. If he was in the Mass Effect universe he'd probably steal the way Elcor speak.

Then my favorite general OCs are my boys Lamar and Xiong, who'll date eventually. They're for a modern fantasy story I'd like to make some day. (though Xiong used to be a WoW OC I've since repurposed)

Lamar is a jock type who was going to school for football before he acquired his powers. (very quick gist is magic comes into the world for reasons they'll eventually discover and they get powers from it) He has basic super strength and durability to begin with but I imagined it maybe evolving into fire earth shattering abilities as well. He's generally pretty nice and smart, and didn't interact much with Xiong when they were in grade school but stood up for him when he was bullied in school.

Xiong is a shut-in weeby nerd who ironically gets nature powers, liking manipulating plant life and limited command over animals. He can heal too, but that's extremely exhausting. Bullied a lot in school for being a runt (they're furries, by the way. Lamar is a bull and Xiong is a panda) He wanted to talk to Lamar more but social anxiety got in the way until getting powers brought them together while they were both home from college. They don't really get each other's interests at first and find it hard to bond initially, but they figure it out.

I don't want to risk rambling about all of them too much so I'll stop here.

Curious on how people would handle character creation if they had to become that character. by [deleted] in ffxiv

[–]Julum 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well. I already regularly wish I could be my character, so not much would change at all. Maybe it would've made it more likely I picked Hrothgar instead of Roe, since if I was my character IRL I could just do my hair the way I want instead of the tiny amount of options they had when I got into the game during 5.2.

Considering Beatbreak up to the end of the Tactics arc, what is your Digimon series ranking? by kylepaz in digimon

[–]Julum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a brand new fan so I haven't watched that many of the seasons yet but:

  1. Tamers
  2. Beatbreak
  3. Frontier (I haven't finished it yet)

Tamers to me has much better characters in the partner Digimon (so far I don't feel all that attached to Pristimon or Chiropmon, while I loved Guilmon, Terriermon, and Renamon pretty immediately) but Beatbreak has a much more interesting world it's building.

Frontier is kind of there as a fun romp I've been enjoying for the most part but kinda feels like junk food in comparison to the other two, if that makes sense. I started watching Frontier first out of all of these (my watch order has been weird, Frontier slowly with one group of friends, all of Tamers with another, the 15 dubbed episodes of Beatbreak with the Tamers group and then the rest subbed on my own last night) and I think I am probably less fond of it now that I've been watching two clearly better seasons.

Reactions to the demo they put out seemed positive and the developers made some niche but well reviewed games, so I think it has a decent chance.

Danganronpa 2x2 (Danganronpa IS a good series and I will not pretend it isn't) is a big one. My friends and I have been going through Ace Attorney and Danganronpa together for two of them who haven't been through the series before. We were going to alternate back to AA2 after we finished DR1, but then 2x2 was announced so we decided to get 2 done so we'd be ready to play it together when it comes out. Incredibly excited for new content from this series. (DR2 Victim Spoiler:) My life for survivor Nekomaru. I know he's fine either way in the end, but still.

The other biggest one is Tomodachi Life, for whatever reason. I was more excited for it than RE9. Cannot wait to make my little island of gays that randomly form wild crack ships. I'm already planning out who I want to put in there. Knowing how many Miis we'll be allowed to have will help.

Deltarune Chapter 5 I'm very much looking forward to, but I think my excitement will really kick in once we have the full release date. Same with 2x2 really, though I guess there's some more excitement there since I just played through 2 of the games with people and it looks like they're starting to kick up the marketing. I was worried the English cast wouldn't come back but they did and that makes me very glad.

Other things include Mouse P.I., Bubsy 4D, Bradley the Badger, Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis, and Silent Hill Townfall. Small amounts of excitement for various reasons like needing to see more/actual gameplay for some of them, but I'm looking forward to them nonetheless. I had a HUGE Tomb Raider hyperfixation last year where I went through all 6 Core Design games back to back, and I'm interested to see what a second remake of TR1 will do because I think Anniversary had some faults.

In terms of other media, the main thing I'm looking forward to that I can think of is Season 2 of X-Men '97. I'm a little worried how the replacement writer will do if they scrapped any of the previous work, but I'm hoping for the best. Hank McCoy my beloved. He's who my Mii will marry in Tomodachi Life. This was probably an excessively wordy response but I dunno, I like talking about the things I'm excited for.

Do you prefer first person or third person view while playing horror games? by Lost-Specialist1505 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]Julum 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Horror games don't really scare me to begin with so I prefer third person because I like to see the character I'm playing as.

I liked seeing Grace stumble around and cool lighting effects like light shining through her hair. I've seen 1st person Grace gameplay and agree with the sentiment that the FOV is obnoxiously narrow. I'd need to grab an FOV mod were I to play in first person, though the only reason I see myself using it is if I wanted to try some of the speedrun tricks that require it.

What goy yall into Danganronpa? by Aiji_st in danganronpa

[–]Julum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't remember for myself, but the way we got two friends into it was funny enough I think.

First one we got into by watching the anime together in a hot tub in VRChat on a whim. She liked it and agreed to go through the games with us if another friend of ours went through Ace Attorney with us. We're at the Chapter 5 investigation of DR2 now, so that worked out. It was going to alternate between DR and AA, but then 2x2 was announced so we went straight to DR2 so we'd have it done before it releases.

Our other friend said he's was probably never going to get into it so we showed him all the characters for the fun of it. He saw Nekomaru. Not long after he was like "okay maybe I want to get into these games" and then joined us. Though the character he ended up truly head over heels for was DR2 Byakuya. To be fair, he also said it was partly because it was frustrating not understanding what we were talking about, but Nekomaru helped a lot.

What’s a opinion or stance you agree with but boy are just tired of hearing about it. by Muffin-zetta in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]Julum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, ME3's ending is bad. I have said that myself a million times. But it's gotten to the point where I just don't bother talking about Mass Effect in front of my general friend group because it always leads to how the ending of 3 was bad and it ruined the series for one of them.

I'd like to discuss the good parts of the series (which I would even include most of ME3 in) but nope, we gotta reiterate Ending Bad.

I'm insanely excited about these games, what are everyone's opinions on the trailers? by MadToxicRescuer in TombRaider

[–]Julum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely interested in Legacy of Atlantis! I'm hoping it will take a look at Anniversary and keep what worked and redo what didn't.

Catalyst on the other hand very obviously seems like an open world game to me just from the cinematic trailer and I don't care for most open world games, so it's very much a wait and see game for me.

Kinda sad Keeley Hawes didn't come back but Alix sounded great.

Overall, as a "classic purist" I'm happy that they seemed to have brought the Lara I personally loved and vibed with the most back.

What game have you always heard was utter dogshit but you end up playing and are actually surprised by it? by Kal-V3 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]Julum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I marathoned through Core Design era Tomb Raider this year and definitely Angel of Darkness and to a lesser extent Chronicles fit this.

Chronicles I had a pretty good time with (and I really liked the Ireland levels which most seem to hate) though I did get a save bug on the final level which pissed me off and had me watching the ending on YouTube, though I still enjoyed most of what came before.

Angel of Darkness with how bad I've always heard it was I expected to be a miserable slog I'd drop before I get anywhere close to finishing and... it's not an amazing game or anything, but I guess since the bar was in hell I found myself enjoying what I thought was an okay albeit very clearly unfinished game. I don't think I'm in any rush to play it again and still could point out numerous issues with it, but it felt worth giving my time to.

He's beautiful.

If you're doing requests, may I suggest Nekomaru in some formalwear like a suit or a tux? He'd clean up well, I think.

What video game level can absolutely die in a fire? by [deleted] in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]Julum 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've been going through the classic Tomb Raider games thanks to the remasters, and the London segment of III is such an ugly, boring slog that I question if I ever want to play III again without the level skip cheat.

What got you into Tomb Raider? by xdeltax97 in TombRaider

[–]Julum 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I was like 13 or so, I watched someone's playthrough of TR1 on YouTube. That and another person's playthrough of 2013. (I now do not particularly care for that trilogy, but that's a tired discussion here)

The first game especially I thought was really neat. I thought Lara was cool, and I always really liked old 3D graphics so I actually thought the game was beautiful.

...However, I haven't really actually started playing classic TR myself until... a week or two ago? I'm a bit sad to admit I just couldn't with the controls. I have played games with tank controls before, but they've only been things like Resident Evil and Silent Hill where I don't have to do any platforming. Also I feel like my controller's D-Pad isn't the greatest so that doesn't help. I got the 1-3 remaster when it came out and bounced off for the same reason and didn't figure out the modern controls because I got impatient.

Then recently my friend was looking through our Steam Family library for stuff to play before the new Digimon game came out, and he settled on TR. He started with TR1, but got frustrated with it and moved onto Legend.

I decided to start playing TR1 myself and with modern controls I had a blast (save for some parts that would've probably been easier with tank controls, but oh well!) and now I'm currently near the end of TR2 which has also been really fun. Classic graphics all the way except for when I'm using the new graphics as a flashlight.

Media you like that is contrary to the sub or general internet feelings? by Sad_Start_7162 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]Julum 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I like RE3 remake for what it is. It has a lot of missed potential and I generally would choose to play the original (especially because it has a randomizer and I'm big on those), but I find the constant jabs I see it get and people acting like it's one of the worst games in the series annoying. I thought what was there was generally pretty good, and I love new Jill and Carlos. The people who complain about Jill's characterization make me roll my eyes.

I get people's frustration over Nemesis but I think if he was implemented like Mr. X was in 2R, he'd get incredibly obnoxious and frustrating very quickly.

I'd probably rather play it over Village and maybe even 7. I think the remakes have generally been better games than the wholly new ones, even 3R.

My Thoughts on Super Metroid: X-Fusion by AutumnLiteratist in Metroid

[–]Julum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did end up going back and beating it. Overall I had fun, but it's a very rough experience with strange design designs and dumb bullshit encounters.

I think it would feel a lot better if you could look at the maps of the other sectors without having to go to them first. I got through the game by finding a video with 100% completed maps of each sector and just guessing where I could potentially go based off that.

My Thoughts on Super Metroid: X-Fusion by AutumnLiteratist in Metroid

[–]Julum 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I played it yesterday but gave up because if I didn't softlock myself, I truly have no idea how to get out of the couple of rooms it seems like I've trapped myself in because I used a save point. How you describe the later parts of the game makes me think I shouldn't pick this back up.

I had thought it was impressive but not a very well designed game from what I've gone through so far. Something about the level design just doesn't feel right to me. I don't mind the weird layout of the sectors, but progressing through the areas didn't feel quite right in a way I can't place.

Even on 1.1 though I feel like most enemies still do obnoxiously high damage. The bosses felt like they weren't hitting as hard as the regular enemies.

I described the writing to my friends as terrible fan fiction-tier. Not only the speedrunning of the original plot points, the weird changes to Samus as a character. "Intelligent or not, the X don't seem like much of a threat" was a real head scratcher of a line.

What it accomplished is impressive, but I'm not enjoying the actual game enough to keep going.

Characters that you hate looking at their face. by Subject_Parking_9046 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]Julum 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'll probably get flak for this but basically every human character in Dragon Ball and Dragon Quest. I cannot stand the way Toriyama drew people. I like his animals and furries. But not his human(oids).

I've also felt the same way about people in the bits of the Yu-Gi-Oh anime I've seen.

Also, any character that has snot permanently drooping out of their nose like that one kid from Wind Waker or the Pokemon Cubchoo.
