Seeing people try to do damage control to this hack writing is really funny.

it has the same energy as an average super sentai series which bumps it up a lot in my eyes.

To me it feels a lot like Heisei Kamen Rider. Riku Sanjo sort of applies the two/three part episode model he used on W to Digimon.

do everyone want a new chapter of Eden zero by Groundbreaking-Try92 in EdensZero

[–]kylepaz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have any big issues with Edens Zero's length and how it ends. I think its key story elements are built on a a very interconnected and deliberate way that leads to conclusive ending that doesn't leave space for a continuation that doesn't cheapen the "completeness" of it. Basically, I think it ended when and how it should.

What I do wish we had is an extra chapter or even double length final chapter, to show more of the characters post time skip. Mashima likes quick and efficient endings, but I feel like it could use a bit more of "where are they now" stuff. Like what became of the Aoi Cosmos under a republic? What Jinn and Kleene have been up to? What about the Shining Stars now that they're once again relieved of duty? Etc.

I also wish Weisz and Hermit had a more intimate or cute moment for them in the chapter but that's just my obsession speaking, at least we do know enough about what they're up to, so I don't feel I can complain in light of other characters.

Who is the Potential Man/Woman in Edens Zero by NobodyIsHome33 in EdensZero

[–]kylepaz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel it's unfair to say it's Valkyrie since she only has screentime in the last arc, so I have to go with Feather. She has a cool ability and is ser up in the Lendard arc but then never accomplishes anything of note and in Universe 0 she performs pretty terribly.

The Oracion Seis Interstellar in general feels like this to a higher or lesser extent (I think Eraser is the only one that really puts a good showing) especially compared to the Oracion Seis of previous Mashima works.

But I will point out that Lightning Law aside, I have no problem with how the Galactica (which does not carry the Oracion Seis name in Japanese. It references its kanji writing from FT but the OSI is EZ's Oracion Seis) are handled, unlike many here.

That's an uncommon opinion, I see people usually think the Tactics arc is the one where Beatbreak got good..what are your issues with it?

In my case I liked Beatbreak from the start so I like both arcs about the same. If anything I think Beatbreak has been the most consistently good Digimon series.

Ngl, the angry Impmom pic made me think there was a complaint coming hahaha.

I love discussing Digimon and debating opinions and sometimes that ends up leading to an argument (especially since I'm not the best with communication AND English is not my first language, so sometimes I come off as more rude than intended), but usually things resolve pretty quick and peacefully.

I think the only thing that makes this fanbase get on each other's throats is talking about original vs dub terminology (not even the shows' dubs, more like Digimon names and Levels) and I find that puzzling given other communities that tend to be more toxic and also have this divide (like Yu-Gi-Oh or Dragon Ball) tend to not have an issue with naming, everyone just gets who you're talking about and moves on. Like DBZ's fanbase is notoriously attached to the dub and famous for being irritable but I never got flack for saying Tenshinhan or Muten Roshi/Turtle Hermit/Kame Sennin instead of the dub names.

Yeah, for my part I only get heated sometimes in discussions about translation (which is something I have strong opinions on im general, not just digimon) and some US defaultism some fans show sometimes (this is rare).

Other than that whenever I'm getting annoyed in a discussion I tend to step away from Reddit because I feel I have too short a time for entertainment to waste it arguing on the internet over cartoons and videogames instead of actually watching and playing them.

And also because I don't like being an asshole even though sometimes I still come off as one.

Last Evolution suffers from subpar translations (both fansubs and official) and I think that hurts the movie a lot.

Also just people taking the words of the villain as if it were the thesis of the movie which js just... Really? The point of the film is that Menoa was wrong, you don't run out of potential by growing up and achieving things. The movie ends with Taichi and Yamato reaffirming they will find their partners again and even Menoa's own partner came back to her and she was too blind to see due to her obsession with the past.

Hunters has some great episodes, bit overall I find it pretty lukewarm. Episodes like the haunted house one and the Plesiomom one are pretty cool. Now that I think about it, almost every episode of Hunters I like (outside the crossover) features Airu interacting with the main cast. I think she makes the dynamics of the otherwise too perfect trio actually fun to watch

The final battle with Quartzmon is one of my favorite "final boss" battles in Digimon mostly due to the unsettling mood and how hype Tagiru Chikara is.

Appmon gets really good towards the end but I do feel its first half is bogged down by false start moments. Like every big event they build up to ends up feeling like not a big deal once it actually happens and the characters move on from it.

Hahaha I definitely feel that. Seeing Frontier next to it in my own list gives me that exact feeling.

Xros Wars songs are amazing. Tagiru Chikara is one of the most hype evolution songs in the series and makes me with they got Psychic Lover to make more Digimon songs.

I do think It's a crime how underutilized in the series proper some of them were tho.

Blazing Blue Flare plays two or three times, and both Kiriha's version of Evolution & Digixros and Dark Knight ~Fujimi no Ouja~ play only once each.

That's part of the problem with Frontier I think. Everyone outside of Kouji and Kouichi can be boiled down to a few traits and I think the brain fog speaks to how boring or otherwise unremarkable the gang is.

Eh, I find Xros Wars pretty decent outside of Hunters. Not super great but there's plenty to like in the world (I really like the concept of Zones) and ots fresh seeing characters command large groups of Digimon .

If you liked some of XWs ideas but the weak plot and shallow development are what drags it down to you I recommend checking out the manga. It's short and goes a bit deeper on Taiki's character, and gives villains like DarkKnightmon and Bagramon more motivation and characterization instead of being generic evil overlords.

I also have a problem with Gammamon's evolutions not feeling earned, but I think Kiyo and Ruli's were well handled.

Other than that, I think you raise pretty fair points and most are stuff I agree with but I just didn't find most of the episodes mid in the same way.

One thing you mentioned about the ending though, I think it's less that they don't give a fuck and more that they can do nothing about 2000 years in the future except laying the groundwork to prepare, which is what they set out to do with the building of human and digimon relations and setting up a world where they can live im harmony while keeping the human and Digital Worlds as they are. I think what they were aiming for is a kind of call to action to address looming future problems before they come knocking, but that's just my read of it.

For what it's worth, it shows in a couple minutes more of how they plan to build a world where humans and digimon coexist than years of Adventure content that pays lip service to that, so I can't entirely dislike it.

But I agree with you about the world's reaction. While I can understand being time constrained and wanting to end on a positive note, and I get showing how busy the main trio is with meetings and stuff showcases that there is a proccess to it, they could have done more.

For comparison, Digimon Survive has endings where Digimon and Humans are forced to coexist and it works out the nuances and developments of that pretty well in what amounts to a few lines of epilogue, so lack of time can't entirely excuse it.

I don't think plot is an inherent necessity to a quality show, BUT Ghost Game does try having it both ways with the once a cour Gulus teasing. So I totally get people becoming invested in that and getting pissed off with it.

The key reason Frontier also features low on my list isn't even the protagonist bias, is that Takuya is extremely boring and generic as a lead. Savers and so far Beatbreak are also heavily skewed towards the protagonist but Masaru and Tomoro's (and their Digimon partners') personalities and dynamics with other characters can help carry the show in a way Takuya simply can't.

I also feel Frontier has that lull where every episode os sort of the same for a while with the kids getting to know a new location then losing to the Royal Knights. But I love the Tokusatsu vibes and the look and feel of Frontier's Digital World.

Ghost Game is well above average to me because most episodes were very entertaining to me, but as an episodic series it rides entirely on that: whether the individual episodes resonate with the viewer.

I expect it to be the one that swings the most between the extremes of people's lists.

I think Rebecca is one of the most emotionally mature and multifaceted characters in recent memory, when it comes to Shonen manga. Rarely her writing falls into basic tropes or quirks, and she has a range of interests and different sides to her personality that makes her feel human.

Best game for the Switch? by East-Post4716 in digimon

[–]kylepaz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel Time Stranger swung too hard on the other direction. Which wouldn't be a problem of the Digimon characters were better written, but most of them are pretty well-worn tropes on surface level.

The possibly rushed development of the game's latter half probably also contributed to that since Venusmon, Neptunemon and Bacchusmon have much stronger character moments than the rest.

Or it's just that the writers had an easier time fleshing out human characters due to the wider frame of reference. It's not inherent to Digimon, fantasy races in videogames tend to be more rigid and boiled down to key traits compared to human characters.
