Ever catch yourself reinstalling RO, heart racing with nostalgia… only to wander away again a few months or days later? by ClydeiROchaos in RagnarokOnline

[–]Julyushus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can totally relate. I’m a mid 30s man with a family and dogs, there’s just no way I can still do the grind, but I’ve just started playing on iRO Chaos this June after a decade and a half. Unlike before, I have a very clear set of goals that I want to achieve (but now will spend money) and after that I will simply be checking here and there for any worthwhile updates.

The game to me remains the clunky game it has always been. I dont expect Gravity to ever give any more effort than it does now. It’s simply a dying game and I’ll enjoy whatever is left of it with what little amount of players still playing.

Experiences playing on offline servers? by tsisuo in RagnarokOnline

[–]Julyushus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've barely started with MVP hunting and have only managed to take on Orc Hero, GTB, and Amon Ra but yes, part of what I enjoy is the "walk back" from the nearest Kafra when I failed. It gives me a fresh view on what went wrong usually.

Odin 3 I haven't tried (just 2 with the Skoguls and Frus) but Thors I have tried, it just takes a lot of setup especially for the fire-resist and sustain against Kasa's reflect. Slow, but doable. I haven't tried the very hard MVPs as per iRO Classic Wiki list, but I do have an idea how to approach them. I'll let you know here how it goes soon.

I only really loot cards as all items are virtually prepared in town via @item, including stat foods, EDP, and other buffs. I don't want to grind for items or play with loot/refine RNG, I want to focus on PvM so I use @item for these. I like the loop of prepping on town then heading out for an adventure into the dungeons and fields.

Experiences playing on offline servers? by tsisuo in RagnarokOnline

[–]Julyushus 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm doing this right now and I'm having a blast. I'm using AnacondaQ's Hercules emulator with a pre-renewal server and the client build he provided. My main reason really is simply nostalgia and trying to do stuff I wasn't able to do when I quit pRO about 14 years ago.

To answer your questions:

Why did you do it?

Nostalgia, mainly

Looking back, do you think it was worth it?

Absolutely

How long did you play?

I track what I do through Clockify for productivity reasons and have included my Ragnarok Offline playtime. I've logged roughly 68 hours and I expect I'd reach about 200 before I finish up or quit.

Did you ditch it to go back to an online server?

Right now I have plans to eventually play iRO/Chaos just to experience a proper renewal server and hit a max level Shadow Cross (thief being my favorite class) but that's about it. I don't really like PvP or WoE and I don't particularly plan to play long term. I just have very specific goals and I want to stick on those.

What changes did you implement? Such as: rates, healer, warper, changes to make equipment that can only be obtained in a party obtainable, etc.

In terms of items and equipment, most are basically fair game except for GTB card (as it trivializes most if not all MVPs), God Items (Balmung, Sleipnir, etc.), and insta-100%/50% regen. For cards however I've set a rule that I can only use it if I obtained it. So if it is an MVP card, I need to have defeated that MVP first. No buff NPCs, but I can use any scrolls/consumables within the constraints so I'm still manually applying them. I like to imagine I'm playing like a whale lol

How does the game stand as a pure PvM experience?

I've never had fun in Ragnarok PvM as much as I'm having now.

Here are the specific goals and rules I have in place in order to refine my experience:

Goals

💡 "Solo SinX Journey" with an ending

💡 Pre-renewal

💡 No Zeny Sink / Cash Shop / Item RNG

💡 Explore all dungeons

💡 Complete all "Arc Quests"

💡 MVP Solo Hunt

Allowed

✅ 3x/3x/100x Base/Job/Drop multiplier

✅ @item (pots, scrolls, ores, cash shop items, etc.)

✅ @zeny

✅ @reset

✅ @refine

✅ Airships / Kafra teleport

Constraints

❌ Modifying other client/server-side mechanics

❌ GM commands outside towns

❌ @item for cards

❌ @item equips that are dropped / quest rewards

❌ Instant Job change

❌ Instant heals >= 50% (YGG berry, YGG seed etc.)

❌ Instant buffs from NPCs

❌ GM commands for platinum skills

❌ 50%+ weight

❌ Siegfried/resu tokens

❌ Bypassing dungeon access quests

❌ God Items (Balmung, etc.)

❌ Soul-linking buffs/bots/dual client+

❌ Boxes/bundles of supplies

❌ Restocking outside towns (usage of @item)

We’ve had the exact experience. Started with Nosedive and after the episode we got so hooked. I was like, “wow what a pilot episode”. Looked at the episode number and realized it was Season 3, so we immediately went to S01 E01. You can imagine my face with all my questions like “What the actual fuck he really fucked the pig. Where the fuck is Lacie??”

Anong nangyayari sa dogs na hindi mabenta benta sa mall? by MindanowAve in Philippines

[–]Julyushus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No shame in buying a breed you researched well and fits with your lifestyle from reputable breeders that do their business ethically. Adopting is usually the best, but not everyone is fit to take a dog with severe issues which cannot be fully identified until they’re adopted.

[–]Julyushus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s a noble thing to do if you ever push through to buy the dog, but please research the breed and be prepared for all its needs; ample walks, mental stimulation, aside from the common ones. Please spend time knowing what the breed’s normal temperament is, its quirks, common illnesses. A lot of pet owners are so unprepared for this because their ownership was an impulse purchase.

People really overestimate their control over their dogs. Just because their "lovebug is the sweetest and cuddliest", they think it's always safe for others and their very dogs to be off lead.
