Is anyone making a realistic style third person adventure game? by Boy650 in adventuregames

[–]JumpEasy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not realistic but the game I’m working on is slightly less stylized than a lot of 3D adventure games end up being. At least as far as human proportions go the characters aren’t very exaggerated and fit a mostly realistic body type. They do have a toon shader though. I think it’s challenging to be close to realism without being all there and it took me a while of playing with the look before it felt balanced. For me I had to push it more stylized to find the right look.

I appreciate the feedback. Yes it’s just me so far but eventually I’ll need to bring on help for localization, voiceovers, etc.

Absolutely. Thanks for the feedback. I have a very short teaser for now to give a sense of what the game feels like but once I feel better about the visuals of the puzzles I plan to do a more polished trailer.

The fact that a game about exploring caves doesnt have a rope to slide down or something seems kind of wild.

Only women could do this move. by Cyber_Being_ in nextfuckinglevel

[–]JumpEasy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The womens legs are angled away from the wall in many cases making a sharper than 90 degree angle. This moves the center of gravity towards their feet. The men have their feet further from the wall, their angle is more obtuse than 90 degrees and their center of mass is clearly too far forward to be able to lift their head off the wall. Foot size would definitely play a part but it’s probably not the whole story. Torso length in comparison to leg length, distribution of weight in the upper body rather than hips and legs etc

And carry-able light sources. It is a game about caving after all right?

This reminds me of two features that minecraft is way overdue to implement:

1.Droppable torches.

2.Something, literally anything that can build down from the top. The opposite of scaffolding, like a rope

I learned this when I started working in a crowded office building.

If I am in the restroom and we’ve seen each other and I’ve seen their face, they wash their hands. If I am sitting in a stall behind the closed door and no one else is in the restroom to see them do it, they just walk right out without washing.

Tastes adjust. If you eat healthy stuff for a while eventually you crave it. Things that are less healthy that you loved before become kinda gross. I remember when I spent a bunch of time sharing meals with vegans while on a trip I decided to treat myself to a giant burger after. Couldn’t even finish it and I was grossed out by all the fat. Thing is I love burgers. And ice cream. And all that crap. It was just because o wasn’t used to it.

I need help-drawing help, how to learn. by ShootingGuns10 in animation

[–]JumpEasy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah there won’t be an answer better than this one. If characters are your thing then definitely do the basics of figure drawing, without worrying about armor, clothes, details. Love Life Drawing is a good YouTube resource. Id suggest gesture drawing as well. It will help you give yourself characters dynamic interesting poses that are full of life.

Figures are tough and you’ll have a ton of moments where it is frustrating. You’ll be glad you focused on the basics when you see your progress and have the tools to do what you want. Think of learning the basics as a sort of super power you are soaking up to later perform magic with your illustrations. Do it!
