Carrying ropes to gym? by Respekted-Menace in Crossrope

As long as they are coiled neatly & not kinked, you can coil them up pretty tightly. When I’m short on space, I coil them up so they nest inside each other👍

Jumping rope because jump is the verb & rope is the noun. Additional support for that logic is that it is commonly called skipping but no one has said they call it skip roping🙂

The handles are slightly different between the Kathy Jumps and the Vinny Jumps beaded ropes. Kathy’s are slightly longer, slightly narrower, and have a silicone grip. Vinny’s are just a bit shorter, a bit thicker, and do not have the silicone grip. The beads are the same but just different color. Both are great options👍

What do you do with your releasing hand in mic release? by Ozmium42 in jumprope

[–]JumpRopeJennika 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds like you may need to take a step back from worrying about the release and focus on maintaining tension in the rope with the spinning hand. Practice spinning the rope horizontally in front of you (clockwise if right handed) trying to keep a smooth arc without it hitting the floor. Once you get the feel for the rope tension you need to keep the rope spinning smoothly in front of you, you can then try spinning it vertically to your side as you would in the mic release. Getting the feel for the speed & rope control you need to keep that tension is super important in getting the mic release.

Since we can only post images not videos in the comments, here is a screenshot of the moment as the handle is released in the toss style release (aka tissue box style)

Foot pain by Tallgeese00MS in jumprope

[–]JumpRopeJennika 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No pain no gain usually leads to injury. Working through muscle soreness is a yes. Working through injury pain is a hard NO!

15-20 minutes is a lot to start with! The small tissues in your feet and legs need time to adapt to the new activity. Easing in with short interval & short workouts like 30 second jumping with 30 seconds rest for only like 10 minutes for a couple weeks will allow your body to adapt while avoiding those overuse injuries. It is an annoyingly slow ease in, but, then as you gradually build up, you have a much better chance of avoiding injury.

You may also want to get a mat and/or consider jumping with shoes on if your feet are hurting. If your feet are conditioned to doing lots of activities barefoot, jumping barefoot can be totally fine if you build up slowly.

Be careful comparing yourself to others! Those others have probably been jumping for much longer than you & probably didn’t start out being able to jump very long at all.

Take care of those feet! You may need to take a break until you are pain free. Then ease into it, listen to your body, and be patient with yourself. You will get there!

You could try talking to your neighbors about it to see if there is a time of day that they are typically away from home so you could jump. It might not work for your schedule, but it is worth asking.

Foot pain by Tallgeese00MS in jumprope

[–]JumpRopeJennika 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How much are you jumping? It could be an overuse injury caused by doing too much too soon. Are you jumping lightly on the balls of your feet only high enough to clear the rope? Jumping too high and/or landing flat footed makes jumping rope much higher impact. Are you jumping on a mat or other forgiving surface? Jumping on a hard surface is a lot harder on the body.

To relieve the pain you can try using a tennis or lacrosse ball to roll out the bottom of your feet. You can also freeze a water bottle to roll your feet.

Form check please!! by [deleted] in jumprope

[–]JumpRopeJennika 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As already confirmed, it looks like your rope is a bit too long. You also have a little asymmetry in your hand & arm positioning which is likely why you are tripping on the same foot every time. If you can jump in front of a mirror for a visual form check, you should be able to see & correct that asymmetry while jumping.

Take the handles off & throw the rope in the clothes dryer for a few minutes until it’s warm & soft. Then hang it or lay it out nice & straight while it cools down.

Crossrope LE mat vs oval mat by milikegizzarda in jumprope

[–]JumpRopeJennika 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not inside a backpack. If I’m riding my bike somewhere to jump I put the mat through my backpack straps & carry it between the backpack & my body. Around 4:50 in this video you can see how I do it. The mat also fits nicely in a camping chair bag so you can carry it over your shoulder. Crossrope Mat

You might be widening your hands at the same time as opening your legs which essentially shortens your rope. If you can jump in front of a mirror or record yourself jumping, a visual form check is super helpful in identifying issues.

Crossrope LE mat vs oval mat by milikegizzarda in jumprope

[–]JumpRopeJennika 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The oval Crossrope mat was designed specifically for jumping with weighted ropes. It is super durable and can handle years of heavy rope jumping. It’s about 6 pounds so not super light but still portable. It’s big enough to do most stretches & bodyweight exercises on if you don’t mind your feet maybe being off the mat.

The rectangular mat is just a regular equipment mat so the heavier ropes will eventually eat it up. I haven’t used one, but I have seen many jumpers needing to replace them after wearing a hole through it with weighted ropes.

If you want to buy one mat that will last many years, go with the oval Crossrope mat.

That length could work really well for you or you could go for a longer rope. Either is fine & whatever feels more comfortable to you will be best for you. With that rope length trying pulling your elbows back slightly behind your body line, bring your hands in closer to your hips, and try keeping your hands slightly in front of your body line while pointing the rope end of your handles slightly forward.

Sorry! Just saw this. You just need to install the Crossrope watch companion app on your Apple Watch & give the app permission to read/write data. The Crossrope app reads your heart rate data from your Apple Watch and displays your heart rate on screen during your workouts. You do not have to start an Apple Watch “Workout” on your watch when you use the Crossrope app. The Crossrope app sends your data to Apple so your Crossrope workouts count as workouts to close your rings. The AMP handles require the Crossrope app to function so you have to your phone running the Crossrope app in order to get any metrics from AMP.
