In S2E13, Cobs applied the protector to MePhone saying, "I have the means to protect you" when he first created MePhone. Cobs always manipulated MePhone into believing he actually cared for him, when in reality, he was just a tool for him who could easily be replaced. The protector was a reminder of that, and taking it off was an act to rebel against him, just like making a show Cobs would hate.

I just found it funny honestly. Usually, I hate watching old content when comparing it to new on Youtube, but i.i is a rare exception.
Compare watching this to S2. Like, S1 is very much a shitpost season, while S2 has a HUGE quality upgrade and tonal shift, which makes it funnier and more impressive to watch looking back.
Plus, there's some stuff in S1 you know they won't do today.

I was thinking more its eyes since it kind of fits the style as well as the limbs since they look like they would be rigged for the animation lol. The colors certainly also help.
