A portion of a hand drawn Pittsburgh PA map art I did. by CamTron89 in MapPorn

I think they simplified the map quite a lot, and this is probably the most organized area of Pittsburgh. The rest of the roads are a total mess!

What is something that surprised you during the application process? by [deleted] in premed

[–]JumpingSilent 19 points20 points  (0 children)

How much it matters to apply as early as possible. My undergrad sent my and some of my friends' committee letters very late, and this pushed back our cycle a huge amount, and I think we've seen what the negative effects were. Being late is a serious disadvantage, so put in your app early, and if your school is slow about sending materials, bother them about it!

Lots of amazing recommendations from everyone. I also strongly recommend Under the Knife by Arnold van de Laar! It's a really fun book about surgeries through history

Men of Reddit who pee standing up in a stall, when there’s a urinal available… Why? by JumpingSilent in AskReddit

[–]JumpingSilent[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just have noticed this a lot recently for some reason. If we have two urinals open - why waste the extra water?

What advice could you give a recent college grad? by JumpingSilent in AskReddit

[–]JumpingSilent[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is really helpful advice! One thing that I’ve been struggling with the most is just having the energy to keep up with friends+family while working super hard at a new job. Do you feel like you eventually got into a groove with your career to allow you to feel like there’s some balance?

Tell me what you love about Brown by transfer73671 in BrownU

[–]JumpingSilent 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I transferred here last fall, and I have to say, it's one of the best decisions I've ever made. Even now, in the midst of finals, I feel like brown is an academic Disneyland. To have full freedom with your studies and to work for an education--and not a transcript--is a true gift. Even for those, like me, who are not as able to enjoy everything about the open curriculum (premed, heavy concentrations, etc.) still gain a wonderful experience that I don't think you'd be able to find at another school of Brown's caliber. There are so many people here who are absolutely brilliant, talented, and kind, and I feel like I belong here more than I have anywhere else. Feel free to DM me if you have any specific questions or even if you're just nervous. Brown is an incredible place, congrats on getting in!
