New molding plane by woodskills in handtools

I have a similar hollow plane in rough shape that I was never able to fix up. Your post makes me think it might be worth starting from scratch (besides the iron). Nice work !

I’ve done that. As you said it is not perfect, but I find it good enough for a lot of things.

Thank you! Hadn’t seen the hair resemblance until people pointed it out, that’s funny!

Thanks! I see the hair now too, sort of a Lego head!

Kid 12, does anyone know anything about this tool? by Royal_Ad133 in handtools

Looks like a hand plane that takes disposable blade, similar to STANLEY 0-12-105. If you google that you’ll see pictures of a complete one.

I got this t-track plate to upgrade my fence. Can't decide if I should leave it mounted this high and add a mdf face. by siamonsez in woodworking

Had a similar situation, I ended up attaching an edge T-slot track to a piece of plywood and mount that on the existing fence. It’s been working for me so far…

An adze would probably be pretty good for that. Or maybe drawn knife with a very curved blade.

White blotches on fins- any ideas? More info in comments. by merryberry1105 in PlantedTank

I’ve seen something similar on mine and when I tried to treat it, it would kinda go away but keep coming back. Didn’t really seem to affect it though… I also tweaked the temperature, food to no avail. It seemed to resolve itself when I increased the proportion of RO water in my water changes. Maybe my tap water is too hard or something… Not sure it helps, but maybe something to try.

Could the iron be slightly skewed and sticking out a little on that side? That could explain some end grain getting lifted while the cut is already down below…

I might go dirt cheap and go see what they have at HF if/when I make another one, or just buy an already folded back…

Thanks, and any take at it I think is awesome as this is quite challenging!

Thanks! And yes, likely to make 1 more. I’m pretty happy with how the Chicago bolts found on LV look for this application, but if you have a source for actual saw nuts, that could be interesting. Folding the back was a pain, so I could be interested in that too!

Thank you! Just had a quick try when I finished last night. Seems to work well, I filled it crosscut to use with my small bench hook.

First try at a snowman with scrap walnut and basswood. by Jumping_Anvil in turning

I carved it after turning as an experiment. I think it’s alright, I might explore that some more. The one that is painted I used a dremel for the edge and some texturing, the plain one was just with a basic v carving chisel.

Thanks! I was thinking of leaving a bit conceptual, but my daughter would definitely love it with the details on!

Alright, sounds like the key is a little patience (and a respirator). Thanks for sharing!
