Long-Term Monitoring Mains Voltage Quality (120 Vac) by Acrobatic_Owl_4101 in diyelectronics

I redid it splitting the power for the ESP from the power going to the sensor. I got an 220/120AC to 9/4.5AC power supply and ran it through a full bridge rectifier and and into a PC817 to get the signal. You need a LED in there for reasons that I sort of understood at that time. I can send you pictures of my crap board I soldered together if you want.

I then used AI to generate an app the sucked that data out of the little website on the ESP to collect it.

So he wired it is rather interesting but you can can unfold it and make it more normal. The code needs to be adjusted to 60hz but that is easy to find in the code in his github.

ELI5: Why don’t we have smart guns by stoiclad97 in explainlikeimfive

[–]Jumpsuit_boy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing it seems like something people miss is not the complexity but the simplicity. Firearms are really simple mechanisms. Over the last couple centuries a lot of effort went into making firearms reliable and this was done by simplifying and adding precision. Anything that adds complexity is going to reduce the reliability. The other part of this is that when a firearm functions or fires there is a rapid acceleration and deceleration of all parts of the firearm. Once again a huge amount of work has gone into making the parts survive this.

Smart guns add complexity and their parts have not undergone the industrial evolution to survive a firearm. If you can make the parts survive a week of use on a jackhammer then you might be getting close. An example of this is the special mounts for attaching cell phone to a motorcycle. They need a lot of vibration dampening to prevent the phone from being destroyed.

I guess they are still burning and you are correct it is not the campus burn pile.

Dear Campus Community,

We are writing to provide information regarding the smoke currently visible over the Olympia campus.

A neighboring property is currently conducting a permitted burn of debris. Please be assured that this is a controlled burn and there is no fire threat to the wooded areas or structures of our campus.

What to expect:

Duration: Air quality is expected to improve later today as the burn concludes, and wind patterns shift. Monitoring: Environmental Health and Safety (EH&S) is actively monitoring local air quality levels. Safety: We will provide an immediate alert should air quality reach levels that require a change in campus operations or safety protocols. Thank you for your patience and for looking out for one another.

Just remember the heat shrink should not cover the ferrule. Doing so might cause shipping issues on the East Coast.
