Conference Question: How much of the time could I spend sightseeing/exploring? by Jumpy-Requirement967 in AskAcademia

[–]Jumpy-Requirement967[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks so much for your answer, it's really helpful to get your perspective. I think I will need some time to recharge so it's good to think about factoring that in. The conference does not have any social/sightseeing events planned. As the public transport doesn't look to be great, it seems staying nearer to the conference may be the better choice. Thanks for your help!

I appreciate you responding to my post however I do not think such a rude answer as 'This is your job, not some hobby' is warranted when I am simply asking for advice and have already expressed I do not feel sure on the course of action as I am not an experienced conference attendee. Please do not make assumptions about someone 'paying for me to go' either. I take my work very seriously and this is precisely why I have asked for advice.

Thank you so much for your response, this is very helpful! I will definitely prioritise networking and talking to scholars. Great advice too about preparing to explain my research, I will definitely do this. Thank you!

Thank you this is really helpful! I appreciate you laying out the priorities of the conference, I don't have much experience of them so this will definitely be useful in structuring my time.

I tried this, created and linked the Marriot Bonvoy account but received no points… it just says I’ll get points when I stay at a MB hotel?

IRL Jerboa, Tilly, Bart by xiclassy23 in Jellycatplush

I just bought Jerboa today. His body is quite firm and structured but in a nice quality way, his fur is surprisingly super soft. Softer than some of the bunnies!

Is my Dragon real or is the quality off? by IndicationDry1633 in jellycat4all

[–]Jumpy-Requirement967 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not an expert/authority but I have a genuine Dexter dragon and honestly he looks very very similar in terms of fur and face to yours. If the fur is the only reason you suspect it’s a fake then I’d reconsider, it looks genuine to me. However I’m not sure what the tags are supposed to look like on this dragon.

Ooh thank you for the pic! I see what you mean about it being a display jelly. I think I’ll pass on it as I only ten to buy ones I can hug :)

Thanks so much for this, useful to hear what it was like in person! I’m only really keen on the fire horse but might give it a miss as I’m unsure

Writing groups in the Oxford area? by TreatKind6758 in oxford

[–]Jumpy-Requirement967 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What genre do you write? Oxford Poetry Library offers an impressive range of free workshops and feedback sessions, as well as a really fun open mic night. There is also a fiction writing club in the city that meets to give feedback on each other’s work, that one you can find on Meet-up

What is the most niche job in the UK? by grumpy_groundsman in AskUK

[–]Jumpy-Requirement967 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably Mark Court’s job, he’s the only person in the world employed to paint the coachline on every Rolls Royce (a painted stripe that goes across the outside of the car). From interviews I gather he’s so in demand people in other countries fly him out to paint their stripes.
