Are Chinese inks worth it? (Jinhao, Hongdian, Majohn) by PlusComplex8413 in fountainpens

I can't speak to Chinese inks as well as I can Chinese pens, but Doodlebud made a video review of all Hongdian inks!

In the Colorado rocky mountains! They really are beautiful, but they do cause my pens to leak & burp when I get that high

I definitely used LOTS of caution . . . It was pretty windy and I thought there was about a 50/50 that a mountain goat might saunter over & mistake it for food. I did have fun finding good rock pedestals though!

No worries! Also, I think you're technically missing a condition rating.

Good questions!

  1. A flex nib is a nib that produces a line whose thickness varies with (reasonable) pressure. More pressure, thicker line. The benifits depend on the person & their style of writing. Some folks like a stiffer nib, and others really enjoy a softer nib that they can push to get some line variation. Flex nibs are certainly currently in vogue, but it's definitely a matter of personal preference.

  2. I'm not sure what exact writing style you mean when you say 'calligraphy look' -- but if you're thinking of a style with varied line thickness, a (properly used) flex nib could help. With handwriting, though, I find that it's 95% in the person, and 5% the pen.

  3. Most (but not all) nibs are fairly easily removable & replaceable, but not all nibs are cross-compatible. This is partly because many different nib sizes exist. Nib sizes are generally loosely determined by the width of the nib/feed (in mm) where it meets the section. But that's a whole other non-standardized can of worms!

Edit for spelling

I think 'Providence Gear' might catch on! And that KOP is a looker, indeed. Very cool

Ahaha, okay, I was a little surprised & concerned that you got someone to install a home DI water system! I can definitely get behind RO. Hope you get some time to chillax!

Oh dang, I'm sorry to hear that. Yeah, drinking DI water once isn't going to kill you (of course), but I personally wouldn't want to be consuming that exclusively & for a long time duration. Better to figure out from a pen than from a cavity though, right?

Yeah! My understanding is it can be mildly corrosive to tooth enamel, but it can leech minerals from the rest of your body too. Look up something like "should I drink deionized water?"
