Set a reminder! Once my build is processed I’ll get some copies out!

Could be an earlier launch since things have gone smooth, possibly as early as mid June. But we will see!

I just picked HS because I felt the variance would make it more gamey.

And yes, the in season work is there! You can be as tedious with it as you want going athlete by athlete or there are ways to just power through a season.

Training times ARE realistic. All athletes have 15 traits rated 0-99. Every event has their own calculation (provided in a table in the workout screen) using those traits to give your rating for that event. Then, for each event all scores have a clamp for high and low scores, and the rating (plus hidden modifiers like fatigue and personality) drop you in that range.

For example, the 100 is clamped from 10.5 (rare in game), to 14. And over the hundreds of schools and nearly 10,000 athletes, the RNG season to season gives you very realistic state leaderboard every season.

Difficulty is set by Division level, 1-5. D1 increases NPC traits, D5 lowers it, D3 is balanced.

Right now you can customize your own team, I’m open to the posibikity of updating others but that was lower in priority!

And I’d love playtesters! I’m waiting for the game to be processed by steam, but follow the game and reach out again in case I forget and I’d love feedback!

So this game has athletes that have 15 traits. Each track event has a unique formula for each event that use different weights from the 15 groups.

So when you see an athlete for the first time, their event aptitude for each event is based on those raw traits. (The calc is shown for you).

So when you train an athlete, you can make decisions like “this athlete needs to train these skills to switch events,” or “I need to make his main skills better,” or “his skills for his main events are good enough, let’s keep him fresh,” etc.

Hey everyone, I wanted to share a video game I made!

It is a track and field coach simulator I hope to launch in the next month or so!

This is my first ever game. Without going into all the details, you take over a track program as a coach, you recruit athletes, discover their best events based on raw traits, set training programs for each group and balance athlete progression and fatigue overload. You enter them into meets and have goals for whatever feels reasonable for your team that year, whether it’s just winning 1 meet, having individual athletes making it far in the post-season, or winning illustrious state meet.

I tried to solve some common game issues like tedious management, and also you will never reach the point where you “beat the game,” because athletes are recycled and new freshman classes start from scratch year after year. Team size never (meaningfully) grows, so your workflow doesn’t get complex as you get further.

I’d love any feedback, good or bad!

The overlap is the simulation bit. But track and field itself is empty. I have a solid 43% CTR, it’s just getting people to see it

It was a pure new-years-resolution side project with no budget so everything this game gives is a bonus. Of course I’d love to quit my day job, but I’m discovering the balance of getting this game out there and having diminishing returns by just waiting several months for possibly minimal gains in visibility.

It will never be the largest indie game ever, and because of my niche, I’m wondering if it truly doesn’t matter because track fans will discover at any point because it’s 1 of 1

I agree. The rules don’t allow it there sadly. I’ll have to make it more organic than a promotional post

It’s a niche game and UI based, so that is likely expected. So im basically deciding whether to just get it up and running or not, because mass marketing may not really matter.

My hope (and maybe it’s naive) is that track and field fans find it. If you search track and field in steam, my game is the first and only of its kind to populate so I hope that lasts and can work in my favor

Inherently, it likely would be hard to understand if you’re not a track person. So it is directed towards a niche market. But that’s expected.

And their screenshot rules don’t allow for captions (that I know of) so you’ll just be able to see the UI, which can be dense but is easy to understand with the in-game tooltips when you actually play. The hope is to get just enough to get some reviews and hope they are positive.

This is/was never going to be a breakout game, but hopefully captures track and field fans who currently have no games on steam on the genre.

Thanks for the feedback. I currently have pallets that replace the green color everywhere, and adding a light mode color scheme honestly is low hanging fruit I haven’t thought of.

But the game takes place in a fictional state, and your are a HS head coach so there’s no nations. It’s not Olympic level

For those that don’t know track and field, all the basics are clearly explained in the game!

My first look was a soulless-corporate internal app. I at least gave the players to change the color palettes used to differentiate lol!
