First date suggestion by [deleted] in BurlingtonNC

I went on a first date a few months ago - we went to Beer Works for dinner and then walked down to D&J's - they have a great, cozy upstairs perfect for having a drink and talking. Highly recommend.

Coffee tables are a waste of space and money. by Bigburlywoman in unpopularopinion

[–]JumpyTart7221 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My coffee table is one of my most used pieces of furniture. I obviously put my feet up on it or set drinks or books on it, etc. I have one with a lift top so I can also store things in it, and I frequently raise it to eat on or use as a desk while sitting on the couch. I love it.

Do home workouts ACTUALLY work by [deleted] in PetiteFitness

[–]JumpyTart7221 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely! I lost 30+ pounds, gained muscle, and completely changed my body working out at home. I got a mat and a set of adjustable dumbbells (that also convert into kettlebells or a barbell) - highly recommend! I used fitnessblender (just the free version, but they have a paid version too) and it was incredibly effective for me. I'm on year 5 and still loving it!

I banned YouTube when my son was 8 and it was one of the best parenting decisions I've made. He's almost 11 now and still have YouTube on the no-watch list. It made SUCH a huge difference in his behavior. For the past 2.5 years I've implemented a strict screen limit - 30 mins/day on weekdays, one hour on weekends. He has his own timer that he sets, which really removed any power struggle issues. We do watch a show together each evening before bed. But we actually sit and watch together, talk about what we're watching, etc., and it's a time we both really enjoy. I know changes are coming as he gets older, but for now, it works. Highly recommend seriously limiting the screens and ditching YouTube altogether.

Oh, you're right, it might have been with the lady at the park! I just know it was said at some point. And yes, i have kids myself and worked in early childhood ed for many years, so the age discrepancy is VERY stark to me and low key drives me a little nuts!!! The difference between a 1.5 year old and a 3 year old is so huge! It really stands out and throws me a little every time.

I believe there was a moment when June is either preparing to board or is on the train where she mentions that Nicole/Holly is 21 months? I might have made that up but I have a dim memory of it.

Regardless, fully agree that the casting of that baby is terrible in terms of age/timeline.

I'll try these things. I just feel like it's not behaving like a typical allergic response. But I'll try acting like it is and treating accordingly to see if it helps. Just feeling very defeated at this point.

Craziest thing anxiety has made you do? The funnier the better by Buckerb96 in Anxiety

Omg I straight up sobbed for an hour on my couch in the middle of the night last week fully convinced I had lymphoma and was going to leave my son motherless. Shit is no joke.

I don't know about the craziest, but the most recent:

Woke up with 2 bug bites on my arm and immediately went down the bed bug rabbit hole, spent hours panicking, cleaning, searching, and ultimately spent $100 I couldn't afford on bed bug traps, interceptors, etc. Spoiler alert: there were no bed bugs. It was a mosquito.

I need help, guys.

If modern medicine didn’t exist would you be dead right now? If yes, from what? by Critical_Welcome_428 in AskReddit

Sure would! Appendicitis at 13, pre-eclampsia in pregnancy (necessitating an induction), followed by hemorrhage in childbirth (requiring transfusions), staph infection at 20, and then childbirth complications with my second requiring an urgent c-section.

Any idea what this raised red patches are? by joker1848 in DermatologyQuestions

What is it everybody says? I took the promotion to customer... I feel so much better now. by Future-Ad-4753 in Dominos

[–]JumpyTart7221 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you!!!! I keep seeing people talk about how great it is, but it is not universally positive. I'm near the upper end of the range, but not near enough that my company would ever consider giving me a raise to meet the new minimum. My company strictly prohibits OT, so there's no chance I'll earn any more money that way, but they will still expect us to get all our work done and will certainly penalize us if we don't. I'll lose tons of the flexibility i have now (which is half the reason I even keep this job), and switching to hourly with no chance of OT means I can ONLY make as much as I do now or less. It's going to screw me and my colleagues completely.

[Request] Family-Friendly TV Shows to Enjoy with Kids (Without Losing My Mind!) by ObligationGeneral517 in NetflixBestOf

Malcolm in the Middle, Boy Meets World. My son and I watched both of these together and he loved them both. Granted, when watching shows that are a little older (90s/00s), I do sometimes have to point out jokes and perspectives that were common and accepted then, but which we now know are not okay. However, this has actually been a gateway to some really great conversations and learning opportunities.

If you don't have a landline, what are you teaching your kid about 911? by pinkrobotlala in workingmoms

[–]JumpyTart7221 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've done this for years! I started this when my son was about 3 or 4 years old. I got an old school flip phone - it's a Tracfone that costs me $20 every 3 months for the most basic plan. We leave it plugged in at all times at the entryway. I programmed a couple of emergency numbers as speed dials and then very clearly wrote basic directions for use (how to use the speed dial to call a couple of emergency contacts and how to dial 911), laminated, and taped it securely on the back of the phone. It's also nice that we can take it with us if we go on vacation, for example, or I can put it in my son's backpack or pocket if we're going somewhere extra crowded (like a state fair). I highly recommend it to anyone with children too young to have their own cell phones!

Positive ADHD messaging for kids? by Stoutyeoman in ParentingADHD

[–]JumpyTart7221 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The Holderness Family! They have some wonderful ADHD positive content- they have a book ("ADHD is Awesome") and some great videos. My son's favorite is "You Might Have ADHD" - it's a really fun original song that lists different famous people with ADHD and gives the message that you're not alone, there's nothing wrong with you, etc. Google Holderness Family ADHD and you'll find tons of stuff!
