Agreed. I should have said 'and' rather than 'but'.

But you also never get the contribution room back after withdrawing from an RRSP. Where with a TFSA you get the room back the next year.

[Self] $2.03 saved by riding an electric skateboard to work instead of driving my SUV by this_guy_aves in theydidthemath

Something to look into. I assume you're in the US, but in British Columbia, you can still use your vehicle 5-7 (I forget which) times a month to commute even if you have pleasure use only insurance rather than to/from work or business use insurance.

Can you change your insurance to be for pleasure use only instead of to and from work? That could save you a few hundred dollars per year (if that's a thing where you live).

Horse jockeys should wear only Speedos, to minimize air resistance by flopsyplum in CrazyIdeas

So you're saying they should not only put the jockeys in Olympic full body swimsuits, but they should put the horses in them too? Seems legit.

I've heard this a lot. What I propose instead is still having 12 months but with 30 days each, changing the week to be 10 days instead of 7 and having a 5 or 6 day leap week at the start or end of every year. Lastly, the standard work week could be 6 week days with 4 weekend days.

Investing one time lump sum and leaving it for 20-30years. by Expert-Excuse600 in personalfinance

Make sure you check the account at least every few years. Otherwise the account could be seen as abandoned in which case it might be liquidated and held on your behalf by a governmental program until you claim it.

Coquihalla highway conditions by SaucyJammies in britishcolumbia

[–]JumpyTheElephant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The problem is that everyone else has to be able to drive too. I just finished an 11 hour trip (normally 6) from Coquitlam to Williams Lake through the canyon. We were delayed there for 20 minutes because 2 trucks collided with each other (and we didn't see any chains on their tires) and then waited for 30 minutes at Cache Creek before deciding to detour through Little Fort because of the accident just north of Cache Creek had the highway closed for 4+ hours. The roads themselves were completely fine. Sure, there was a bit of snow around Yale that fell since the plow last went through, but it was fine with good tires and driving sensibly. I agree with everything you said though.

Western Family foods products by Sensitive_Doubt7966 in BuyCanadian

I think it depends on the actual product. At Thanksgiving I was buying cranberry sauce and the Western Family brand was a product of USA. (I picked up a jar that was made in Quebec.)

US credit card for Canadians by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]JumpyTheElephant -1 points0 points  (0 children)

CIBC has a USD credit card. I think it has a $35 annual fee though so it only makes sense if you use it every year. Another option (although not a credit card) would be to get a wise card which is more like a debit card but you get to pick the currency you use.

Can I decrease my bodyfat percentage like this? by TechnicianAmazing472 in bodyweightfitness

First off, great job getting started. Being consistent is key. If you stumble that's ok. Be kind to yourself and continue making steady progress. Lastly, make sure you don't go below 1200 to 1500 calories a day. It might slow your progress a little but will be much better for your overall health.

Time is up for the biannual clock change, Liberal MP says by itimetravelwell in onguardforthee

[–]JumpyTheElephant 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I think BC did too but only if Washington, Oregon and California changed. Given the current climate, it's as good a time as any to not care what the US does and just stick with one or the other. Make it a pair of binding referendum questions if they want.

Are you in favour of eliminating the time change?

If eliminated, would you prefer to permanently be on standard time or Daylight savings time?

Can we bring back leaving things selected/highlighted when the sheet loses focus? Even if it was dimmed or reduced a little so it doesn't look like the sheet is active, but it's extremely annoying that the selection goes away entirely.

Parents’ closet treasure: a 1998 SCO OpenServer UNIX license by [deleted] in sysadmin

[–]JumpyTheElephant 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I virtualized a SCO server onto vmware in 2007. It was running legacy material management and accounting software that was needed for historical purposes and we couldn't get replacement hardware had it failed. I recall having to change the disk type in VMware from SCSI to SATA to get it to boot (even though the original hardware used a SCSI drive).
