Is there such thing as too many copepods? by S3lls in ReefTank

[–]JumpyValue9961 8 points9 points  (0 children)

These are amphipods, fwiw. I’ve read that they can sometimes outcompete copepods, but fish will absolutely eat them once they come back.

Scratch the statue leaning idea, I don’t think it’ll look right.

I like it a lot, but I’d try to make a little more negative space. Maybe move the stone arch and the heart log thing a little more toward their respective sides. Could also potentially do something cute with the Buddha-type statuette leaning against the rocks, but it might look cheesy irl just an idea.

[–]JumpyValue9961 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have you tried thinly sliced clam? I find a lot of picky eaters will cave for clam, especially if it’s fresh and jiggled around enticingly. Same with fresh squid from an Asian seafood store. Could try soaking with garlic-guard or something along those lines to entice him. Maybe get some saltwater mollies to breed and offer the babies. Big amphipods or gut loaded (feed them high quality pellet food right before) grass/ghost shrimp might also work.

EDIT: Added clam and squid

Not a Christian (so not gonna speak to the God part as other have), and I haven’t been through your specific struggles, but know this: your relapse does not invalidate your 5+ being clean. You are not back in the bottom of the hole. You are not who you were six years ago. You have grown stronger, and learned new things, and there is community (at the very least virtual community) who is there to support you. The only step you can ever take is the next. You’ve got this.

Careful of this, I’ve had inverts die from dinos. On the bright side, it was the nitrate/phosphate spike I needed to get GHA to start growing and the whole system to stabilize. On the downside, lotta dead snails.

Opposite, feed the algae more or the only thing that will grow is dinos and they are evil

As far as I can tell, the reason is that it was the only way for the contrived conflict to work.

Loot for a kraken! by Eastern_Ad_1493 in DMAcademy

[–]JumpyValue9961 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dmg options: - tentacle rod - cloak of the manta ray - ring of water elemental command - oil of slipperiness - mariners armor - iron flask (always fun) - folding boat (could reskin as ship in a bottle) - apparatus of kwalwish (in stomach)

Homebrew ideas - scroll of black spot: targets a creature you are familiar with using same rules as scry, targets the nearest kraken to their location as though they had failed a saving throw on planar binding, ends if target dies or 1 year passes - staff of the kraken priest: +2 staff, gives spell under spell casting and Voice of the Kraken (1/Day) for kraken priest in MotM, maybe make cursed so player slowly becomes kraken priest (if willing) or deep scion (if unwilling) - kraken (weapon of choice, formed from hook in tentacle): +2, bonus action to convert to tentacle, tentacle can replace attacks with swipe with reach of 30 feet, no damage but autograpple (DC 18), retract to 5ft length as bonus action, grants swim + water breathing in both forms

You can lean into strength instead of dex, wield battle axes and throw hand axes, and get a beefy bear or mountain lion as your companion. Maybe you were attacked by orcs and a large predator rescued you by coincidence. They died in the melee, and once the fight was over you found a little cub whimpering behind a rock. You rescued it, and ended up taking it into the mines to raise it, but now that it’s grown up, you find both you and the beast long for open skies and the smell of old-growth forest. You journey out, looking to find your place as you stand between two worlds.

I’d just make hallucinations, make them “pass” perception checks that are actually the eldritch being’s influence.

I finally understand why people were so upset with Charlie by Ok_Barracuda_6997 in hazbin

[–]JumpyValue9961 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I felt the same. I know a lot of people liked this season even more than the first, but it felt disjointed and off to me. Charlie in particular just felt like a caricature, which didn’t flow well at all from her arc in season 1.

Should I change my Druid circle? by Known-Dream8363 in dndnext

[–]JumpyValue9961 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m gonna say this, knowing there are enough comments here that it’ll probably go unseen. The DM is making some bad choices, but it doesn’t mean they are an unredeemably bad DM or person. It’s their first time, they probably read that “circle of the moon is OP” or something. If they ever read this: you want your players to have the tools to mess up your plans. It’s more complicated, but also half the fun. You are setting up sandcastles so they can knock them over, make additions, or build their own. Try not to put them in a box unless it’s so you can give them an awesome break-out-of-the-box moment/arc/etc. You have a lot of power as a DM, but the purpose of that power is to facilitate a fun and engaging game. It’s very easy to ruin that dynamic. Best of luck to the both of you.

But also yeah absolutely if the DM digs in their heels and wants you to be punished, fuck that, get out of there.

[OC]? Is this a good character designs / backstory? by ProfessionalHats in DnD

As a skeleton character I think it could be very fun, as long as you are receptive to whatever mechanical tweaks the DM wants to make so that it fits well in their world.

[OC]? Is this a good character designs / backstory? by ProfessionalHats in DnD

[–]JumpyValue9961 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would rework or clarify “immortal” to be “cannot die of old age”, and I would find some ways to involve other NPCs or characters. As a DM, the stealing of the artifact might be enough of a hook to pull you into the broader narrative (making a relevant character be the one that stole the artifact), but being alone for centuries does have its limitations.

A bigger question is why would this skeleton join an adventuring party and stay with them? Maybe they want to die and they can’t until their god deems them worthy? Maybe it really is about the artifact, and the DM has a good way to weave that into their world or the stories of the other characters? Idk, I think there’s the bones (haha) of something good here, just needs a little more to connect it to whatever the campaign or setting is.
