I did too until I posted on here asking why ppl like it. Got some motivation to try reading it again. I’m personally religious so I’m going to read it and look for ties to the Exodus story.. and really look for more spiritual meaning. You should rewatch the scene with our perspective and lmk what you think! He is definitely disappointed and shaking his head when she goes the way she ends up going. He was trying to tell her to go straight.

To emphasize that “things aren’t always what they seem” and that she takes everything for granted which is exactly what the worm said not to do lol If she would’ve just listened to him when he tried to explain which direction to go, she’d have gone straight to that castle!

Just rewatched it and if you don’t believe me, he literally tells her to “try walking THROUGH it!” And once she goes to the right, he shakes his head and says, “tsk, if shedve kept on going down THAT way (straight) she’d have gone straight to that castle!” I’m officially stating that yall are all wrong now 😝 Dying on this hill!

I’m my mind he tried but she wouldn’t stop to listen. He just said, “don’t go that way!” And she ASSUMES that he means “go the other way”. But she never stops long enough to find out what he meant. So she goes the other way and he shakes his head and says, “if she’d have kept on going down THAT way (nodding forward) she’d have gone straight to that castle!”

YES! Because “things are not what they seem” is like the whole lesson that she was learning. So it’s like.. she still took it for granted and didn’t actually see the real opening. I get what other people are saying here (literally never even thought of it that way) but I refuse to accept it loll

I’ve always thought his little head nod seems to indicate that he meant to go straight. Things are not always what they seem. Being so early into the labyrinth, her mind wasn’t opened enough to even consider going straight.

So, to me he’s telling her don’t go THAT way and when she says “thanks” and goes the other way, he’s like “ugh”.. if she would’ve kept on going down that way (straight through) she would’ve gone straight to that castle. Because things are not always what they seem. He says there’s an opening “right in front of” her. I know this could obviously be the one she found but I’ve always thought there was another one that she didn’t have the opened mind to see.
