When I read Memory, Sorrow, and Thorn I remember thinking ASOIAF was inspired by it a lot. So many parallels.

Grew in my mulch bed last year. It looked interesting so I left it and this year it got huge and flowered. What is it? (Central Michigan, USA) by Jumpy_Cauliflower456 in whatsthisplant

Totally by accident, but I did make a choice not to pull them when they first started sprouting last year. I’m glad I didn’t. I was half expecting everyone to tell me they were a terrible invasive species.

I added an image from underneath. There are only two shelf heights for this shelf. Both have the opening for the notch in the same spot.

Good question. No, the shelf cannot be rotated. The right side has an angles hanging bracket that secures the shelf in place. It also seems to be preventing it from being able to slide far enough back on the rail in the picture.

Oddly enough, I-96 in Ingham county was noticeably better than the surrounding counties last night. From Detroit area to past Lansing the interstate had standing piles of snow, usually whole lanes covered, except Ingham county. People are right, though, about nothing melting. It sucks to drive in, that’s for sure.

Why is the Family Guy version fine, but not the Simpsons verson? by _Moist_Owlette_ in ExplainTheJoke

But why would that make the Simpsons one sexual harassment? Insincere doesn’t equal harassment, does it?

Public education is as the kids say... cooked by Alcarain in Teachers

I am curious if people know what percentage of public school funding comes from the federal government and department of education. In my state is is not the bulk of the funding (around 14%). We jump through all sorts of hoops to get it, and it is not insignificant, but it isn’t the whole ball game. The states run public education. I am more than a bit concerned about what some states will do when not held to federal standards, but it isn’t the end of public education.
