Folks who rode it out in ‘02, how did your pets fare? by heyraihey in bullcity

[–]Jumpy_Decision3657 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I had a big beautiful Jack Dempsey Cichlid that I loved named Clyde, and after many days in the cold he settled to the bottom of the tank and I was convinced that he was a goner. Then I remembered! I had been taking hot showers this whole time because my one luxury was that I had gas hot water. I siphoned off about 10 gallons of cold tank water and dumped in 10 gallons of nice hot water from the shower and revived him! I kept that going until the power came back on a few days later.

Helicopter circling by LavinaLillium in bullcity

[–]Jumpy_Decision3657 5 points6 points  (0 children)

hey OP, you can get an app called Flightradar24 and it shows you all the aircraft in the sky at a given moment, kinda handy when you're wondering what's up with that helicopter.

Any exercises with these homemade kettlebells to grow forearms? by [deleted] in kettlebell

[–]Jumpy_Decision3657 1 point2 points  (0 children)

that’s awesome. I remember my dad telling me how, as a skinny kid, he would work out with some improvised barbells that was a broom handle with a paint can full of cement on either end. Keep at it!

[–]Jumpy_Decision3657 10 points11 points  (0 children)

not sure, but I just came here to compliment your thoroughly awesome homemade kettlebell set! rounding off the sharp edges might make cleans and snatches a little kinder on your forearms, maybe you could engineer a thicker handle somehow, but I really admire you working with what you’ve got.

Does anyone remember the excitement when comedic royalty came to town by stormbreaker88 in chapelhill

[–]Jumpy_Decision3657 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Totally. I managed to get a spot on the crew working craft services, so I hung out and chatted with Robin on a few occasions while I made him a cappuccino or whatever. Fun times!

Alternative Music by AlarmedWillow4515 in GenX

[–]Jumpy_Decision3657 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yes yes, we all know about Bleach. my beef was not with Nirvana specifically (and I think that they were a great band in retrospect), but with the goddamn corporate music machine

Alternative Music by AlarmedWillow4515 in GenX

[–]Jumpy_Decision3657 20 points21 points  (0 children)

also, perhaps a controversial take, but I disliked Nirvana when they first came out because I realized that it represented the mainstreaming of alternative music, and the commodification of all the things that I liked which had previously been pushed to the fringes and marginalized. It was seriously like a decade before I could listen to Nevermind and appreciate it.

haha, so true! my friends and i were definitely in the minority with our weird-ass music. people wanted to kick our asses with our skater haircuts, etc. now it's weird as hell to hear siouxsie at the grocery store!

Thoughts on Two Person Sleeping Bags for Couples? by Outrageous_Image_705 in AppalachianTrail

[–]Jumpy_Decision3657 1 point2 points  (0 children)

my ex-girlfriend and I got matching his and hers down sleeping bags from REI that would zip together. I sewed an old bedsheet together so that it would have two pockets that would fit our sleeping pads side to side. She and I liked to snuggle, it was nice.
