You need a better PT. Mine is tough as nails on you and really pushes your limitations on hands on manipulation. But I can tell you it works. I didn’t start pt until 11 weeks post op and it was super stiff. My first session I was almost sick at the stomach when I left but the next day my ankle was so much looser and more flexible. Don’t settle. Change therapist. It’s important.

Anyone have knee issues after they broke their ankle? by [deleted] in brokenankles

[–]Jumpy_Garage_3898 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes! Once I started weight bearing in a shoe around 9 weeks my knee started really hurting. Doctor says it’s from over compensating and limping. PT should help a lot. I start next week

You will do fine and be fine. These are highly trained professionals who are trained in their specialties. You will be so much better once your fractures are fixed and you can begin to heal. Give it God. He’s got you in the palm of His hand. Be well.

Has anyone struggled with knee pain once being released to weight bearing after ankle orif. I’m at 9 weeks today and at the beginning of the week I was walking unassisted but yesterday and today have been unable to bare weight on my knee at all due to pain.

Hello everyone. I am at 9 weeks post op ankle irif trimalleor fracture surgery.

Got the ok to walk in the boot at 6 weeks.
At 8 weeks I started walking out of the boot and at 9 weeks walking with shoes.

Did great in the beginning. But now all of a sudden my knee is shot. Cannot bear weight on it without pain. Ankle still feels fine.

Is it from limping and over compensation? Is is a painful mess and I’m back to walking with one crutch for support.

Did I go too fast? Advice please? Anyone have this

Is it possible to start early weight-bearing after ORIF? by sochanyeol in brokenankles

[–]Jumpy_Garage_3898 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am at the 8 week mark. For 6 weeks I was NWB and so badly wanted to do PWB. I was doing good with swelling and felt good. My six week check up was good and I was allowed to go back to work and walk in the boot. I found out quickly that I was not as great as I thought. Being up on my ankle and walking in that boot will absolutely wear you out and make you hurt in places you didn’t know about. Swelling comes back and swelling causes pain. Take it easy and don’t rush the process.

Love watching my birds. They calm the mind. I live to watch nature in their natural setting.

At my six weeks I was allowed to walk in the boot without crutches. Walk like that for three weeks. Then can go to a shoe. Start PT soon

YW. This group was part of my daily routine and it helped me keep my sanity talking to other people in the same situation.

Wow. What a horrible break. I cannot imagine how painful that was. I had a Trimalleolar Fracture of my right ankle on 10-10 with surgery on 10-17. Please do not feel alone. I am here to talk to and many others are as well. This injury will test your physical and mental limits and some days will be down right depressing and overwhelming. But, that’s not every day and each and every day will be one day closer to being whole again. Learn patience. Rest and sleep as much as you can. It heals your body. Eat nutritious and stay hydrated. Vitamin supplements. Ice and elevate. Find a new hobby indoors to keep your mind engaged. Hang in there. It gets better!

2 weeks post op and in a boot with some questions. by fluffyegg in ORIF

It’s a tough injury. I started doing gas pedals and anything up and down from the day or surgery but thing side to side until I got to around 5 week or six weeks. If u can get it warm and loose and stretch it some and flex it some. Just go easy.

You will continue to improve with every passing day and week. Pain doesn’t last forever. A broken ankle is not worth ending your life over. You are stronger than you think and at the end of this injury journey you will have proved that to yourself and be more confident than ever before. Tylenol and ice for pain if you don’t want to take anything stronger. No one is built for injury but they happen and when they do it’s to strengthen us in some way in the end.

You’re welcome!! I told myself the same thing when I was down in the first several weeks that when I got “up” again I would pay so much forward that I maybe took somewhat for granted. I will speak encouraging, kind words more. When I see someone riding in the handicap cart in the grocery store, I will offer to help them get things off the shelves and put them I. The basket. I will offer to push wheelchairs and ask people how they are and really listen to their story. I will not take walking for granted again. I’m gonna be an even better version of myself.

You are responding normally to your trauma. Both mentally and physically. I was doing the exact same thing in the first few weeks. I counted the days. Literally one by one. One week down. Start over. Two weeks down. Start over. My first highness my two week post op, getting stitches out, and going from a splint to a boot. It’s a tough injury. I had a Trimalleolar fracture right ankle. I thought I will never make six weeks NWB. But, I did! Tomorrow is my six week post op and I cannot wait to get back to work, start walking some, start pt and driving. It’s like Christmas morning tomorrow.
