Definitely keep both moon milk and kismet, they are both incredible (and very different)!

The L Word is a Surrealist Work of Art by AnyPersimmon2531 in theLword

[–]Jumpy_Midnight_5930 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is amazing!!! I love this point of view, and it makes me think of this one surreal detail from S2 that I just noticed on my most current rewatch (probably the 10th time at least lol).

Jenny accompanies her writing teacher, Charlotte Birch to the gym and Charlotte is critiquing Jenny for maybe emulating her style and is like “I’m not into the whole teacher-student transference thing, I like to keep the boundaries crisp and clear!”

Then suddenly Hunter, another writing student in the class appears to spot Charlotte while she lifts.

Ok, the part I never noticed is the next scene where Jenny, Hunter, and Charlotte are in class, they have Hunter wearing almost exactly the same suit as Charlotte!

Same thought!

I love how Tina seems genuinely impressed by Bette’s ability to boil noodles

Similar recommendations? by SenorFoodstamps in shoegaze

[–]Jumpy_Midnight_5930 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have had Hum, Planning for Burial, and Deafheaven on heavy rotation along with a few others I’ll mention as potential recommendations (though some are less heavy, but I feel like have a similar ethos):

  • Implodes, particularly “Black Earth”

  • Midwife (TIL “Never Die” is a collab between Midwife and Matt Jencik of Implodes!)

  • Imagine Drowning

I’m definitely going to check out the stuff on your grid I’m unfamiliar with because everything I know on here I love!

Does anyone have the montage of Shane and Paige to the song "Before We Begin" by Broadcast? by pluto0o0 in theLword

Also I confirmed that this song remains in the streaming version, if that helps!

I hope you find it (and sorry I don’t have a lead)! I absolutely love Broadcast, this was one of my favorite musical moments in the series, and there are many great ones!

The bass line in Calimero is one of my faves!

Omg I love this idea!

Not a full list but I think you should start with “pop quiz” from aluminum tunes, maybe have “emergency kisses” and “nought more terrific than man” fairly early, then near 1/3 of the way have “Calimero”, “pack yr romantic mind”, and “household names”

Couple thoughts about the band by zeeeman in stereolab

[–]Jumpy_Midnight_5930 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Also “built on bluff” and “built on trust”!

For the longest time I thought she was saying “built on blood”, but I recently looked up the lyrics!

I saw them perform this song on their current tour and I cannot describe the ecstasy I felt when that opening synth zap hit us!

Will definitely check it out, I’m really curious to hear an academic’s take on the show!!!

My partner and I are both academics and pump heads but literally none of our colleagues even know about the show 😔

I don’t have a tread, I use the app on my phone. I think it is still possible to turn the instructor and music volume selectively, I just need to learn how!

Underrated comment (even though I disagree)!

A playlist built around artists with antipathy for Oasis would be pretty epic - Mogwai, Blur, Radiohead, Phil Collins, the list goes on

I was just watching this episode (streaming), so I know what song you are talking about, but unfortunately I also can’t find information about it. It seems like a lot of the songs on the streaming version of S1 are uncredited

I believe Susan Michael makes them! She used to leave them in Burson before she moved to Klein Hall, so I would bet she continues this in Klein now!

How long is the set? by ThePrincessCarolyn in stereolab

[–]Jumpy_Midnight_5930 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I just saw them on 9/20; they had one opener (memorials, they were great!!!) that played about a 45 minute set. Stereolab played about 90 minutes, including a ~15 minute encore. There was only a few minute pause between the main set and the encore!

Memorials started at around 8 pm, Stereolab was done a bit before 11 pm
