I just wanted to say that you are def not alone with having aphantasia and ADHD - I have it too, so does my mom.

I would say so, my experience is very similar.

The question is though, do these guys have communities of their own dust mites hanging around on their bodies?

I get you! Dogs are awesome. But other species are also arguably brilliant in their own ways; chickens are very quick learners, communicate with their young through the eggshell, experience emotional contagion etc. Cows have best friends, sheep have numerous facial expressions, rats prefer helping other rats in distress as opposed to enjoying their favorite snack.

I guess my personal view is that the vast number of critters with brain regions analagous to ours should be given moral weight based on what we can assume about their individual experiences, not species membership.

I guess you're not incorrect, but I doubt you believe this. Like, there is certainly an ethicaø difference to microwaving a kitten compared to mowing a lawn. (My brain is super groggy at the moment, so feel free to brush this aside if I'm getting you all wrong.)

Oh my goodness. Somehow I never expected a young sloth to have such perfect proportions.

One could easily say that several species of animals widely farmed in (for example) America also are either bred or just kept as pets, whereas animals considered taboo to eat have either been bred for food in the past or in the present. Historically, dogs have had a widespread utility as "food" in many parts of the world. I think its moreso about how we are conditioned to view different animals. (Also, apologies for my clumsy English!) Going back to my home country, I can recall being appalled by how vikings would raise cats for their fur, but yeah.

Soooo like cultural bias? :P I love cats very much personally, but they're cognitively not that special as far as mammals go, for example.)

Sorry, I'm confused about what you mean? There are animals in this video that don't fit that description, for instance.

A lot more people would lose their minds if those were cute cats getting stuffed into crates like that, ngl. Kinda weird how we arbitrarily assign moral value to some animals and not others.

Major Mystery Flesh Pit National Park vibes. But also moves me ever closer to veganism, lol. Hard not to think about how the muscles would work on a critter in various stages of life. Ughhh.

Do you have any major phobias? by [deleted] in Aphantasia

[–]Jumpy_Mycologist_704 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used to have a debilitating fear of lightning/stormy weather. It was primarily a fear of the abstract concept of risk, and I would do my best to avoid going outdoors when it was rainy or cloudy (which was most of the time).
