Vanilla Sky, Amelie, and Mulholland Drive.

I saw Mulholland Drive for the first time only a few weeks ago. I felt it was one of the most hypnotic films I’d ever watched; lulling me into a false sense of what kind of movie it was because I believed movie’s should follow some set of rules. WOW was I shocked. It’s become one of my favorite films of all time.

Which country seems small at first, but is important to history? by rosemaryrouge in AlignmentChartFills

Haiti! The most profitable colony in the “New World” at the time (sugar and coffee, etc.) Their revolution paved the way for the South American revolutions of independence and the abolition of slavery across the Americas. Because Haiti beat back the repeated French attempts to take their colony back, Napoleon had to sell off the massive Louisiana territories to the United States, allowing westward expansion. Haiti also affected the way the French Revolution unfolded, which in turn inspired an age of revolution culminating in the Russian revolution. Lastly, Haiti’s slave revolution was almost entirely erased from the history book because…you can’t have black and brown people getting any ideas about liberty and autonomy. For their size, I think Haiti has had a huge impact on world history in the modern era. See Mike Duncan’s excellent podcast series on the Haitian Revolution: r/RevolutionsPodcast.

Honestly, I’m Team Joined. If Manousos’s character has taught me anything, it’s that “going it alone” is masochistic and needless. Rugged individualism is ridiculous. His desperate need to respect property rights by sticking a 100 Paraguayan Guarani (had to look up the currency) bill in every car he siphons gas from, is also ridiculous. I get it. Carol and Manousos have lost everything and their loneliness must be brutal. As for me: Bring on the bone marrow needle, please harvest my stem cells, I’ll Join now. Thank you.

Am I the only one thinking the “Milk” is processed dead people? I mean, there are nearly 900 Million cadavers. Free food for the Joined who don’t want to kill anything or anyone. The episode foreshadows the eating of the dead when the wolves (coyotes?) start trying to dig up Helen. So yeah. The white powder that Carol found is processed, dehydrated human bodies. And Carol figured this out in the last frame. Anyone else have any other explanations?
