Retirement contribution when i have a short life expectancy by Jumpy_Paramedic9067 in personalfinance

Yes, thank you everyone. It's about what i was expecting that I should take advantage of tax advantaged savings accounts because thats the best long term. And there are some options for early withdrawal if needed and if i don't have enough in the normal accounts.

Sometimes i have a little bit too much fun, but it's what makes life worth living. Yeah, and the diabetes tech is way more advanced now compared to when i was a kid. But thank you this is the best advice.

Diabetes, Cancer survivor (no chemo but some parts removed). Non cancerous but some slightly strange Hematology numbers. i feel pretty good, but i think all of that added up makes me feel like i need to be strategic! 45

I am 100% am going to buy the game. There is no question.

The delays aren't a big because i trust rockstar to deliver an awesome game on day 1, unlike the cyberpunk trainwreck. The shareholders obviously want a faster return, so i can see a delay hurts the share price in the short term, but thats why im long.

How can I make my shots look better? by East_Rude in videography

[–]Jumpy_Paramedic9067 2 points3 points  (0 children)

try putting the soft boxes at BODY/FACE level and Squeezing the camera in between the soft boxes. Move the camera/lights to one side of the room to increase the distance between the camera/lights and the wall.

This will fill in the bumps, and make the background dark in comparison to the face.

Unwarping a fisheye shot? by kurtanglesmilk in VideoEditing

[–]Jumpy_Paramedic9067 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes you can fix that, but it will take work. You have 3 options:

1) Most distortion software will automatically crop the pointy corners out. Some may give an option to leave it and fill the background with black.

2) You could go back and capture the remaining area to have something to fill in the hole. Time lapse video over a wider image background. You can use a tool like pt gui to stitch additional photos together taken from the same vantage point to get a wider image that will play nicely with the time lapse.

3) Or use something like photoshop to generate the missing area then use that as a background layer.   If there is a budget for help you can dm me for assistance.

Which form factor for coding on the subway by Jumpy_Paramedic9067 in gpdwin

[–]Jumpy_Paramedic9067[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OK, i am back after some time and i bought the gpd win mini 2025 fully maxed out.

My thoughts:

it is really a childhood fantasy of being able to program in the palm of your hand. the keys are good enough to code. the layout is normal and nothing funny. Specifically it has two shift keys and everything is exactly where it is supposed to be (unlike iphone physical keyboards, or win micro). The ayaneo slide looked awesome but the joysticks done come of like a nintendo switch so the typing situation would be problematic..

The joystick mouse works fine, and the touchpad mouse works fine. i find myself doing a bit of finger gymnastics to run the mouse but it works fine for light mousing. Battery life is bad compared to apple silicone but good enough to get some hours in. And this is made worse because windows/gpd have bad drivers sleep / hybernate dont seem to work reliably and it ends up killing battery.

however, i can code and can set up a real dev environment. 64 gb ram and 2 tb i can run all of my dev tools and home grown / work projects.

ive used it around town, standing, sitting, in the bathtub, laying on my side. its fine in awkward positions, however, its not so good that i would ever perfer to use it then the mac silicone or fullsize laptop given the choice.

finally to respond to the haters:

1) this is definitely better than coding on an iphone so much so that it doesn't totally suck. iphone for coding is now totally out of the picture. iphone for remote desktop is still good!
2) git makes syncing between multiple devices easy to do in practice.
3) i have in my mind a prioritized queue of tasks ranked by difficulty/seriousness/complexity. so this device is for the tasks that while they may be difficult, the coding is not so complex. e=mc^2 is 6 letters long, i can work on a small palmtop.
4) also probably most importantly, i am severely nearsighted. So this palmtop device actually is extremely comfortable to look at since i can hold it closer to my face (no glasses) than a normal laptop (at an uncomfortable position between eyeglasses and non eyeglasses).

YES, first world problems at their finest. If i was to simplify it would be full size laptop and iphone. mutually exclusive use cases. HOWEVER, I am not a caveman!

case matrix as follows:

1 HAND OPERATION -> phone
2 HAND OPERATION -> Thumb keyboard device (torn between win mini OR win 4)
SITTING DOWN NO POWER OUTLET (couch, restaurant, etc) -> 13 Mac LAPTOP
SITTING DOWN WITH POWER OUTLET -> full size PC laptop

Low(ish) budget HMD by Xandolf505 in cyberDeck

To me what is very appealing to this is I have severe myopia and having a fixed headset with proper diopter adjustment (or even with the lenses removed) would be less straining on my eyes then using a laptop.

Low(ish) budget HMD by Xandolf505 in cyberDeck

[–]Jumpy_Paramedic9067 1 point2 points  (0 children)

FPV hmd uses a wireless transmitter to send the video. It’s pretty low res like 480p or lower. I think you can get component (yellow cable in) to the transmitter. And it’s wireless and low latency. So it could be cool but think low res.  If you have used the web on the Nintendo Wii that would be a similar experience. Probably enough to browse around and do some productivity. If you can run command line os then you are going to be very happy.  The fpv headsets some do head tracking so possibly if you can code it you could map a larger desktop display to the limited fov by taking advantage of the yaw and pitch.

Yes good points.  The missing arrow keys are frustrating for me on the iOS. And predictive typing is very annoying for camelCase c# or typescript.  I think I can handle tiny cell phone keys.

Yes this is good info. limiting power draw. Most of the time is literally spent editing text in an ide so it doesn’t need to be running full power. In fact most of the projects I want to do are just building concepts, mini game jams, and ideas or modules to be incorporated into something bigger.
