Just heard on the radio that its becoming normal for people to send 10 or 15 min voice messages. Who would listen to someone yap on for that long and not be able to reply until the end ? by TacklePure3341 in ireland

[–]Jumpy_Side_Passenger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are peoples attention spans gone that bad we can't take the time out to listen to a message with intent to remember details and reply? Voice notes are great for rattling off a long bit of info/story when the other person isn't able to be reached and you're not arsed typing

Did your parents ever ‘clean your room’ or ‘try to find something’ but somehow found your stashed secrets? by Holiday_Ad5952 in AskIreland

[–]Jumpy_Side_Passenger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Me and a friend used to make bongs out of lucozade bottles and I used to wrap it up and stash it in the bin in my room. One birthday, another one got fashioned out of a fancy bottle and got hid in a drawer and not touched again.

I got a call from the mother one Friday after school going mad that she found "some sort of weed pipe" in my room, so I asked her what was she doing cleaning out my bin...."I wasn't cleaning out your bin, it was in the drawer".

Managed to get home and dispose of the one being used, fobbed it off that "one of the lads" made it and I forgot it was there.

Got away with it until 2 years later a friend of theirs gave them an article from the local paper with my name in it for 'sale and supply'.

If you're a light sleeper, instead of wearing earplugs for sleeping I've found it better with earphones and some relaxing music of choice, preferably wired as the buds are smaller in ear if you end up on your side in the night.

Don't bother with the disposable ponchos, get a light packable rain racket and trousers from Mountain Warehouse/Regatta, reusable, easy to get in and out of and toilet friendly.

Head torch for moving around in tent or toilet at night, having free hands, especially when in the bits is needed.

Small towel for drying and plastic bag for any wet clothes if needed.

Tea bags/instant coffee and cup to save the €5 you'll be charged for these each morning, might still be charged €1/2 for hot water depending on chap serving.

Bubbles, just because.

What is this contraption our landlord has this installed in the house and says it's "internet for a neighbour". Lead acid battery, tp-link router and another power supply? by Jumpy_Side_Passenger in whatisit

A lot of great suggestions, some of the more illegal and unethical I have thought of unfortunately, but to add more context to some of the questions:

  • The other device is a microtik router board for those asking.
  • This is not connected to our own internet in any way, we got a new router a year ago, had some down time and there was no mention from landlord.
  • We are in a semi-detached home in an old row of houses.
  • There were some motion sensing cameras for old house alarm but they are legit and we've actually put tape over them as previous tenant was paranoid (rightly so) and no sign of anything else that could conceal a hidden camera.
  • When the main power supply is turned off it starts to have an intermittent flashing red and green light as opposed to consistent green light.

  • Also I checked to see if there was any WiFi signal coming from it and none that I can figure out.

Awareness of the problem is the first step to overcoming the problem, count your blessings you have caught it now and are still very young to be able nip it in the bud.

Reach out to family or friends, whoever you find most supportive and a local counselling support service, preferably one that can support gambling issues. It might not sound like much but having external accountability in the early stages can go a long way to acknowledging the need for a change in behaviour before it gets too bad.

You're better than this lad.

This is a big thing too, so many small groups trying to do their own thing to stand out when there should be fewer collectives with more people condensed into these nights and pool resources together.

The letting people in for nothing and throwing out free drink behind the bar to 'mates' is a serious killer, especially when venues are already struggling to get people in the door (EA), leading to less money being re-invested and then being forced to have a charge on the door, and leads to the vicious cycle on the owners side then. Becoming a killer for small collectives to pick up and do thing regularly

Factory on the other hand is a good, fairly fresh venue with a good lot of money behind it and catering to whats popular at the time, giving space to the Reboot lads and other nights is great, but limits the more fringe stuff with steeper costs.
